ROBERT SMITH
April 11, 2022
This message is from Carol's cousin Robert (Bobby) Smith - youngest son of her aunt Hilda Marie Hassen-Smith and her husband Donald J. Smith of Mill Creek Indiana.
I have not been in contact with my Hassen cousins since I last met with Carol & sister Judy that visited La Porte, IN back around 1996.
Dear extended Hassen family - I sincerely apologize for the lateness of my contact. I had not heard about Carol's passing. You have our deepest sympaties and may God strengthen & bless you all.
I had only met Carol twice. Once was back when I was a young boy visiting with my parents. She lived in Kentucky at the time and all I remember is that she was a nice lady that was very kind to me.
The second time was when she & Judy visited my half-sister Janet Malstaff in La Porte, IN back in 1996. She was even nicer then :-) and had many interesting stories to share about her work & art, in which she was truly gifted & inspiring. May she rest in peace as she watches over us all from Heaven :-)
FYI to cousin Judy et. al. -- Your cousin Janet Malstaff (daughter of Hilda) of La Porte passed away last year (2021) as well. She had not been doing well and was already in the hospital where she then contracted COVID.
Finally, I and my wife Cherri, her son Cody and his little boy Parker have since (summer 2020) moved from Indiana to Arkansas. If you all see this message please feel free to reach out to us at the email provided herein - we would love to hear from you. God bless all... cousin Bobby.

I am so saddened by this great loss. We had become friends when I was called to her and Bob's house to do some remodeling work. Her enthusiasm for art poured more appreciation into me as well as an education. We will miss her but she will live on in our house with the 4 works of Carol's that we are very fortunate to own.
