Margit Gritzbach

Margit Gritzbach, 81, a resident of Los Alamos, the daughter of Rudolf and Ida Herget, passed away Aug. 30, 2013, of natural causes.
Margit was born Dec. 4, 1931 in Prague, Czech Republic and moved to Germany after World War II. She met her husband, Josef, while still in her teens and married him in October 1950. In 1982, Margit changed her residence to live close to her older daughter in the United States, first in New Jersey and since 2004, in Los Alamos.
Margit was a housewife in Germany and upon her arrival in the U.S., kept busy with a variety of volunteer work. Among her many activities, she comforted HIV infected babies at a Jersey City hospital, worked in a kitchen preparing meals for homebound patients, crocheted baby blankets for charity and worked as a volunteer at the Mesa Public Library bookstore.
Margit was preceded in death by her younger daughter Regina, who passed away in 1988 at the age of 30.
Her many friends and relatives will remember Margit as someone who ardently embraced life, was open to new experiences even in her later years, and was full of compassion for her fellow creatures, human and four-legged. Her laughter brought joy to all who knew her.
Margit leaves behind her daughter and son-in-law, Eve and David Kloepper, as well as her husband. She will also be missed by our three cats, Max, Moritz and Blacky, whom she loved and cared for.
Margit will be cremated and her ashes will join those of Regina in the family plot in Germany. A memorial will be in Los Alamos at some point in November.
