Lois Fay Gritzo went to join the Lord on November 29, 2018. She was born on June 14, 1935 in California, MO, and graduated from California High School. After graduation, she worked as a technician at the Mallinckrodt Chemical Company in St. Louis, MO.
She attended the University of Missouri, Columbia, MO, majoring in Chemistry. Lois met her future husband, Ludwig Gritzo, there and they were married at Third Baptist Church in St. Louis on June 21, 1958.
They traveled on their honeymoon to Los Alamos, New Mexico, where Ludwig joined the staff of the Los Alamos National Laboratory. Lois worked as a chemical technician there until her eldest son was born. She then worked as a full-time mother for her two sons. After her sons were grown, she rejoined the Laboratory and retired in 1993.
She had many interests. She was a talented artist with oil paints, water colors, and chalk. She refurbished used dolls, including sewing all new clothing, and donated them to charity. She studied geology and paleontology, coauthoring a paper on New Mexico fossils. Her last major effort was a detailed study of her family history back to the 17th century.
She is survived by her husband Ludwig Adam, son Russell Earl and his wife Deborah, son Louis Alan and his wife Ginger, granddaughter Jessica Sage Gritzo, grandson John Luke Gritzo, step grand-daughters Cheri Palmer, Tanya Jones, Leah Utech and Kendra Tully, nieces Jacquelyn Mellis and her husband Ron Spicer, Sue Eberhart, nephews Steven Mellis, Michael Reber and his wife Shirley, Kenneth Eberhart, Robert Eberhart and his wife Catherine, sister-in-law Jenny Gritzo, and numerous other relatives.
She was predeceased by her father Earl Frederick Eberhart and her mother Kathryn Marie Burger, her brother Ernest Earl Eberhart and his wife Ruth Jane, her sister Mary Margaret Mellis and her husband Robert, and her sister Mildred Marie Reber and her husband John.
Her ashes will be buried in Guaje Pines Cemetery, Los Alamos, NM. A brief informal memorial service is planned to be held at the White Rock United Methodist church, White Rock, NM, after the beginning of the new year. In lieu of flowers, a donation to a favorite charity in her name would be appreciated. To view information or leave a condolence, please visit www.danielsfuneral.com
