Mary Spires Obituary
She was a graduate of St. Mary High School. Mary Catherine worked at St. Mary's Convent and Rectory as a housekeeper until her retirement. She was a member of St. Mary's Church, the Catholic Ladies of Columbus, Olivedale and a volunteer at the American Red Cross.
Mary Catherine is survived by her sons, Jeremiah J. Spires of Lancaster, Michael Spires of Arlington, VA; daughters, Sarah Ann (Robert) Ahlers of Ashland, Ohio, Mary Catherine Spires M.D. of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Mary Lou (Ralph) Bontrager of Rushville and Mary Patricia Schwartz of Lancaster; grandchildren, Jeremiah B. Spires, Jeanne Marie Cairns, Genevieve (Andrew) Spires, Amanda Spires, Philip Spires, Margie Ahlers, Mark (Darleane) Ahlers, Robert Ahlers, Ann (Matt) Cole, Karrie Bontrager, Joe (Erin) Bontrager, David Bontrager, Alicia (Nic) Gaston, Kristin Bontrager, Justin (Andrea) Schwartz and Ian Schwartz; great grandchildren, Amelia Cairns, Sarah (Andrew) Goldsmith, Elizabeth (Mark) Slabodnick and Luke Bontrager; nephews, Ed (Irene) Stocker of Columbus, Bill (JoAnn) Stocker of Venice, Florida and many other nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mary Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, James Joseph Spires; brothers, John Maher, Raymond Maher, Richard Maher and Jerry Maher Jr.; sisters, Mary Margaret Maher and Anna Mary Stocker.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Church Lancaster with Fr. Donald Franks as Celebrant. Burial to follow at St. Mary Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 30 from 2-4 p.m. & 6-8 p.m. at the SHERIDAN FUNERAL HOME where a Rosary will be conducted at 7:30 p.m.
