John Agoglia Obituary

September 24, 1937 - March 14, 2014 John Joseph Agoglia passed away peacefully in the early morning of March 14, 2014, after a three-year battle with cancer. He was 76 years old. John was born to the late Gertrude De Salvo and John Agoglia, Sept. 24, 1937, in Brooklyn, NY. He graduated from Brooklyn's Ft. Hamilton High School, and later attended Brooklyn College. John married his longtime sweetheart, Joanne Marion Posillico, in 1961. They lived together in Staten Island, NY, and Park Ridge, NJ, before relocating to Los Angeles in 1980. John began his career with Barclays Bank, and then joined the CBS television network in 1964. After 16 years at CBS, where he left as Vice President of Business Affairs, John joined NBC and rose in the ranks to become President of NBC Enterprises. He retired from the network in 1998 after 18 years. After departing NBC, John launched a media consulting firm; was appointed President of the Board of LAX Airports Commission; served on the board of directors at KCET; and was the board chairman of the Los Angeles Universal Preschool program. John spent much of his free time in Sun Valley, ID, where he loved to ski during the winter and fly fish during the summer. He was an avid traveler and enthusiastic cook, who delighted in entertaining friends and family. John was preceded in death by his wife Joanne, who passed away in 2010. He is survived by two children, Anthony and John, both of Los Angeles. Three grandchildren, Steven, Jamie and Tess, also survive him in addition to his brother, Thomas, of Brooklyn, NY. A private memorial service will be attended by John's immediate family. In lieu of flowers, the Agoglia family is requesting that donations be made in John's name to the charity of your choice.

John was a key part of that successful NBC run in the 1990s - personally and professionally. He welcomed me into that group and was a mentor during that time. I'm sorry that both he and Joanne are gone too soon. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

John was a mentor, a colleague and a friend. I have so many fond memories. I could go to him for tough business advise or just to share a laugh. He was a tough executive, a tough negotiator but he never lost sight of what was important in life, your family, your friends and having fun!

I have the fondest memories of John, as a mentor, as a friend, as a business colleague. I've shareed tough times at NBC but I've also had the good fortune to share many laughs with him. He was the consummate professional who never forgot to have fun along the way!

The world will be a less vibrant place without John. I will be forever grateful to him for giving me (the "kid from Canada") a chance, and having faith in me. May he rest in peace.

John was the very definition of a gentleman in an industry in which gentlemen are all to rare. May his family and many friends find comfort and consolation at this time.
