James Ring Obituary

October 8, 1947 - July 29, 2018 Beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, friend and mentor, Jim passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at his home in Calabasas, California. Jim was born on October 8, 1947 in Rochester, N.Y., but his family moved to California when he was ten years old. By trade, Jim was a real estate developer. As a person, he defied description. He was larger than life; a true visionary, immensely creative and a uniquely talented man. Despite his brilliance, Jim remained sincerely humble, gentle and genuinely kind. Jim always retained a youthful outlook, enthusiasm and optimism. He will be remembered for his quick wit, hilarious sense of humor, gifted story telling, warm and loving smile and the mischievous twinkle in his eyes. Jim was a collector of unique and interesting historical memorabilia, and especially cars that he proudly designed to award winning perfection. He deeply loved all of God's creatures with an open heart. Nature, flora and fauna were his passion and throughout his life he created beautiful natural environments that were aesthetically pleasing and calming to the soul. He traveled all around the world to experience God's creations. He spent over twenty years at his home on the Cape enjoying the beautiful home and magnificent gardens that he shared open-hardheartedly with everyone. To know Jim, was to be in the presence of someone magical and important. This rare genius of a man always wholeheartedly embraced the opportunity to mentor and support others when they needed it most. He was a blessing to countless people who loved him fiercely and cannot imagine a world without him. His legacy of love and service to others will forever shine brightly in the lives of all those whom he touched so profoundly. Jim is survived by his loving and devoted wife of forty years, Raina, and his three daughters whom he adored Blake and Brighton Ring and BreeLayne Ring Carter and husband Hunter Carter. Jim was preceded in death by his parents. Dr. Ellis and Frances Ring and is survived by his beloved sisters Jackie Morgen and husband Skip Morgen, and Suzanne Ring Caplan and husband Stan Caplan and nieces Jennifer Morgen, Traci Chorna, and Amy Caplan, nephew Brett Morgen, grandnieces Ivy and Skylar Morgen and Sabrina and Tahlia Chorna and grandnephews Max and Jasper Morgen and his precious dog, Lola. In lieu of flowers, and in honor or Jim's enormously philanthropic heart, the family requests that donations be made in his name and memory to any of the following charities which were so important to him: The Arthritis Foundation, The American Diabetes Association, The Centennial Guild of Children's Hospital Los Angeles and the CSUN Urban Planning Department. A celebration of Jim's life will be held on Wednesday, August 1, at 12:30PM at Mount Sinai Memorial Park Hollywood Hills. Chevra Kadisha Funeral Directors

Dear Raina - I am very sorry to hear of Jim's death. We grew up together in Rochester. October was birthday month. My mother's was Oct.3, Jim's was Oct. 8, and mine was Oct. 11. His house was directly across the street from mine. We had lots of good times and good memories. Sincerely, Paul Snyder

Dear Raina:
We are so sorry to hear of Jim's passing. It certainly brought tears to my eyes. Although we have only known the two of you for a short time we were very fond of you both. As you may recall, i mentioned that the highlight of our recent trip to The Land of The Polar Bears was the privilege of meeting you and Jim. We were looking forward to spending much more time together during our trips to L.A. Hopefully the three of us will still do so.
Jim was a wonderful man and I was looking forward to becoming good friends with him. I will surely miss him. I know we all will.
You have our sincerest condolences and warmest best wishes as does your beautiful family.
Love Bob & Susan.

We are heart broken over the loss of Jim Ring. We met 28 years ago in Ille de Saints when he and Raina fell off a moped and we helped them up. Although we lived across the country, we constantly saw him. Jim was a one of a kind human being- so funny, so g

I'm going to miss my dear friend Jim so much. I met him in 1964 at Rexford a private school for gifted brats. We've remained friends for all these years both going to each of our 70th birthday parties.
Jim was a very unique friend. When you spoke to him, he really listened and was truly interested in what was being said. I used to make him laugh a lot. He was my best audience.
A new chapter in the Ring family is about to begin. It's not going to be easy but I know Raina with all her charm, wisdom and love for her children will keep the momentum going forward with all her love.
I know how tough it is to lose a parent. I think of mine everyday.
So a message to Blake, Brighton and BreeLayne, always know that I'm around to talk to you whenever you feel the need. After all, that's what friends are for.
Love you all very much,
Cathy and Jeff
