Francis A. Hurtubise M.D.

Hurtubise, Francis A., M.D. Frank Hurtubise, a long-time resident of Long Beach, CA, passed away in the comfort of his home on March 13. He was born on June 19, 1927, in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. Dr. Hurtubise obtained his medical degree from the University of Ottawa, completed his residency in surgery in Worcester, MA, followed by post residency studies at the University of Pennsylvania, Graduate School of Medicine. Frank arrived in Long Beach in 1963 and established a private practice specializing in general and trauma surgery. He was instrumental in setting up the Emergency Medicine Departments at both Long Beach Memorial Medical Center and St. Mary's Hospital. Additionally, he served many years as Medical Director of the emergency department at Long Beach Memorial. He was the founding president of the California Chapter of Emergency Medicine and the founder of the original National Board of Emergency Medicine, U.S.A. A practitioner of medicine and surgery for over 50 years, Frank was also an avid photographer, oil painter and traveler. Some of his favorite memories included countless water skiing and snow skiing trips with his family. Beloved and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Frank is survived by his wife Dale Anne Hurtubise; seven children: Kimbi Hurtubise, Michele Hurtubise, Anne Marie Miller, Suzanne Lassen, Louise Wood, Mary Ann Hurtubise and F. Paul Hurtubise; eight grandchildren: C.J. Knowland, Kyle, Drew and Celeste Miller, Renee and Laura Lassen and Marcel and Lena Hurtubise; and two sisters, Pauline Wilson and Marguerite Parker of Port Colborne, Ontario, Canada.
Memorial services for family and friends will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, March 19, at Our Lady of Refuge Church located at 5195 Stearns St., Long Beach, CA 90815.
