Jack Elinson Obituary

Elinson, Jack
April 21, 1922 - November 17, 2011
Surrounded by his loving family, Jack Elinson died on Thursday, November 17, 2011 at his home in Santa Monica of natural causes. He was 89.
Elinson served as executive producer on many of the TV shows for which he also served as writer, including such hit shows as The Colgate Comedy Hour, The Jimmy Durante Show, The Real McCoys. The Danny Thomas Show , The Andy Griffith Show, Gomer Pyle, The Doris Day Show, Good Times, One Day at Time, 227, and The Facts of Life.
Quiet and unassuming in private, as a comedy writer he made millions of viewers laugh out loud. While highly-regarded by his peers and an inspiration to younger writers, many of whom he mentored, he remained modest about his accomplishments, choosing to remain out of Hollywood's limelight. A loving husband, father, grandfather and devoted friend, he will be sorely missed.
Jack was pre-deceased by his first wife, Katie, and is survived by their four children: Michael (Meryl), David (Barbara), Robert (Dorothy), and Ethel (David). He is also survived by his second wife, Estelle and her three children: Marcy (Steve), Claudia (Brian) and Valerie (Adam). He leaves behind 12 grandchildren.
Funeral services were private. The family has requested that donations may be made to OPICA Daycare or Skirball Hospice.

Jack once confided to me that "no man should have power over another man." As executive producer for many shows, he never abused that power. If only there were more people in powerful positions around the globe who followed Jack's credo, what a wonderful and less violent and corrupt world this would be.

Jack was loved by his One Day At A Time family. Funny, sweet, gentle man. A true gentleman.
