My thoughts are with you,Mel,and certainly you,Chris. As someone else posted here, there will never be anyone else like Margo.
We were blessed in countless ways to have been a part of Margo's life, impacted in wonderful ways. She educated. We learned. She cared deeply and shared her insightful talents. She could not have done more to help each of us, her patients, her colleagues, her friends.
You will always be with us, Margo. You are a legacy. Til we meet again, rest easy and know you are forever in our hearts, much admired, dearly loved, and deeply missed.

As with so many others, Margo shaped my career and my passion for pain management. I first heard Margo present at Lake Morey, VT in the 1980's, and from then on, she inspired me to learn more! Never in my wildest dreams would I imagine eventually becoming a colleague. Margo's drive, advocacy, passion, talents and compassion are legendary. Her work and her legacy will live on in those of us who learned from her and follow in her path.

I am grateful for the many years I had with Margo. For those of us who started this journey very early, we have had a mentor, a friend, an ally and so much more through the years. We will all definitely miss the love she held for patients and peers.

God bless you always Margo for your kindness and encouragement to a struggling graduate student trying to find her way in pain management. Your shining example of pain excellence was a beacon for me on my journey of caring for people in pain. You shared your knowledge with anyone, your Clinical Manual was the Bible for a sound resource to manage pain. You are and will be missed. Thank you for all you have done for the art and science of relieving suffering in the world. Rest comfortably.

My thoughts and prayers are with Mel...my sincerest and deepest condolences...
The first time that I heard Margo speak was 1992 at UCLA in the School of Nursing for a lecture to the APN students. Her passion for safe effective pain management and relentless commitment to those suffering with pain or addiction inspired me to change practice and focus on pain management in every organization that I have practiced.
....and already the world seems empty and not the same....we must all assume her commitment, passion, and advocacy for all those who suffer in pain and for those who suffer with addiction...politicians won't do it...the media won't do it...each of us must follow Margo's lead and take a stand....

I will be forever grateful for having Margo share her commitment and passion for improving the comfort of patients through her speaking and publications. As a pediatric nurse, I heard her definition of pain being that of what the child tells us, maybe not in words, but in nonverbal clues. Actually Margo elevated the role of the nurse for all of us who followed her to the bedside as recognition that nurses at the bedside really had the time and the presence to know what patients needed....comfort. Her efforts will live on as all health care professionals continue to recognize the need to reduce the suffering of our patients.
