August 23, 1915 - April 14, 2018 Rhoda Gerard Sarnat, 102, died in her home in Los Angeles with her family gathered at her bedside. Rhoda received her B.A. from UCLA in 1936 and her M.A. from The University of Chicago School for Social Work in 1939. She served as Assistant Dean and Director of Field Placement at the University of Southern California School for Social Work from 1961-1981 and volunteered afterward as a docent at the Los Angeles Zoo. Rhoda was an avid photographer and documented not only the animals at the zoo but also her world travels. Rhoda is survived by two children, Gerry Sarnat and Joan Sarnat and their spouses, Lela Sarnat and David Hoffman. She also leaves five grandchildren, Zoe Sarnat Aron, Eli Sarnat, Emma Sarnat-Bazri, Jascha Hoffman and Michael Hoffman, as well as six great-grandchildren. Rhoda was laid to rest at Hillside Cemetery in Los Angeles beside her beloved husband of 70 years, Bernard G. Sarnat, who died in 2011.
