Fred Rhyme Obituary

Fred E. Rhyme On March 12, 1925, Fred E. Rhyme entered this world by being born on the kitchen table in a little town in Minnesota. By age 7 he was helping his dad in his leather shop in Hutcheson, Minnesota. Shortly thereafter he was catching and selling minnows, selling chicken eggs, and that was the birth of his strong lifelong work ethic. After the family moved to California, World War II began. Fred lied about his age and joined the Merchant Marine as a teen. Fred served his country delivering needed supplies on dangerous runs including through the Bering Sea. Returning to civilian life, Fred worked several jobs, got married, and became a dad to his three girls. In the 1960s Fred decided to take a risk and opened Rainbow Mealworms, which became a success due to his hard work, dedication, and a crew of loyal employees. The company and Fred appeared five times on Huell Hower's program "California Gold" and was featured on ABC's Channel 7 News. Even the bugs made co-starring roles on Fear Factor, and the Guiness Book of Records. After the passing of his first wife, Fred remarried in 1996 and moved to Lakewood, CA. While still working at Rainbow, Fred became interested in the poker game "Texas Hold 'em", entering and winning several tournaments! On September 23, Fred lost his year long battle with cancer. He is survived by a large loving family and countless friends.
