Alex Mendoza Jr.

1935 - 2016

Alex "Tano" Mendoza, Jr., has been welcomed into the arms of our Savior Jesus Christ, and his beloved wife, Luz Ortiz Mendoza and son Vincent Mendoza on April 1, 2016. Alex passed away peacefully in his home surrounded with loving family by his side. Born in Las Cruces, NM on June 14, 1935 to Alejandro and Helen Mendoza Sr. Alex was the oldest of six brothers and one sister whom he dearly loved; Benny Mendoza and wife Elaine of Las Cruces; Gilbert Mendoza and wife Gloria of Albuquerque; Elmo Mendoza and wife Dee of Albuquerque; George Mendoza of Las Cruces, and daughter Doretta Garcia and husband James of Greely, CO and Rudy Mendoza, predeceased.

Alex Mendoza's legacy lives on by his four children: Gabriel Mendoza, Xavier Mendoza, Monique Mendoza-Foley, and Tanya Mendoza-Galindo. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Cariña Alejandra Mendoza; Roman Xavier Mendoza, Dominic Xander Mendoza, Zachary Ezra Mendoza, Christopher Edward Mendoza, Sierra Mae Foley, Finnegan Joseph Foley, Kylee Simon Foley, Londyn Omar Galindo, Sharlise Giselle Galindo, and great grand-daughter Clarabella Anne Mendoza.

He attended the original LCHS on Alameda, graduated and shortly after enlisted in the United States Army in San Antonio, TX where he met the love of his life, Luz Ortiz. They married in September 1957, and returned to Las Cruces, NM to start a family of their own. Alex worked side by side with his father in the tile industry. He then went on to build a reputable construction business of his own, Mendoza Tile and Drywall. He became a successful businessman and was well respected in the community for his hard work and passion for the construction industry. He was also very passionate about his faith and his role as an usher at Holy Cross Catholic Church.

He enjoyed and shared many fond memories with his friends Mike Carrillo, Johnny Barrella, and Leo Evans. The three were the best of friends and have so many wonderful stories to tell, "Oh…if only the streets could talk". Tano will forever be remembered for his poise, charisma, and love for his family and friends. His drive and determination was an inspiration to us all. We are forever grateful to our father for everything he accomplished in his lifetime for his children and grandchildren. He has left behind a heavy mark and deep seed in our family that we will always be thankful for. His Legacy will live on for many more years to come.

Rosary will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church, April 13th at 6pm. Funeral Mass by Monsignor Anderson on April 14th at 2:00pm. Celebration of life will be held immediately after, at The Grapevine Plaza 3900 W Picacho Ave.
