Philip Alix Obituary

GREENVILLE - Philip George "Pepere" Alix, 86, of Greenville, died peacefully on Feb. 3, 2015, at Monadnock Community Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 15, 1928 in Greenville to Adrien and Angelina (Thibault) Alix. He resided 84 years in the house built by his grandfather. He was predeceased by his three brothers Roland, Ulysses and Leo and his sister Adrienne Alix. He is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Alina (Vaillancourt) Alix, a sister, Gabrielle Chabot, his sons and daughter-in-law, George and Gladys, Denis and Carol, Marcel and Lynn, and his daughter, Diane Steele. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren; Richard and his wife, Karen, Jeffrey, Katrina, Shawn, Joshua and his wife, Heather, Christopher and his wife, Chanelle, Stephanie Loiselle, Justin and his wife, Kendra, Allison Steele, Marcel and his wife, Jennifer, Courtney Steele and Kody. He was also the proud great-grandfather of 10 (soon to be 11).

Philip graduated from Appleton Academy in 1946 and started work at the hardware store in Greenville. He worked for Greenville Mills, then Florence Mills, for 23 years. He was the supervisor of the preparation department until the mill was sold in 1970. He then went to work at Ham Radio Horizon Magazine, where he managed the book store until it was sold in the 1990's.

After retiring in 1995, he continued to pursue many hobbies and interests he enjoyed throughout his life. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and he enjoyed golfing, gardening and playing softball. He had a passion for photography and he always had a camera nearby. He was a fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots, but his French-Canadian heritage showed in his lifelong following of the Montreal Canadiens. He never missed a game his grandchildren played, whether it be baseball, softball, soccer, basketball and volleyball, both boys and girls. He enjoyed traveling to visit family in California, Illinois and Florida. He was always happiest when his family was around him.

Philip had many accomplishments. He was a Special Police Officer for the Town of Greenville for 30 years, before retiring as Captain. He was an Auxiliary State Trooper for several years. He belonged to the N.H. Police Association and the NRA for many years. He was a ham radio operator and a member of the Souhegan Valley Amateur Ham Radio Club. A lifelong Catholic, he was a charter member and past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 8016 of Greenville. He was also a member of the Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus Council 8455 of Jaffrey.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Saint Vincent de Paul Society, Sacred Heart Church, 15 High Street, Greenville, N.H. 03048.
