Terri Lipman Obituary

KEENE - Terri Lipman, a Keene artist, passed away on Feb. 1, 2016 after battling a long illness. She was 71. Born Therese Gottscho in Brooklyn, N.Y. on Nov. 28, 1944 to Reba and Alfred Gottscho, she spent her childhood in Lancaster, Pa. She met Henry Lipman at Lou's Corner, a luncheonette owned and operated by Lipman's parents in Lancaster, and they married on Oct. 10, 1965. She attended the University of Kentucky and graduated from the Chamberlain School of Retailing in Boston.

Lipman made a variety of art throughout her life, including textile dyeing, painting on canvas, wood and metal. She authored many books and written articles on painting folk art on wood, metal and fiber. Many magazines published Lipman's work including Good Housekeeping, Home Magazine, and Traditional Home. Her work has been sold in a variety of catalogs and was featured on QVC. Her work was exhibited widely at such venues as the Cambridge Artist Coop, Monadnock Area Art Association, Walpole Artisan Cooperative, Sharon Art Center, and the Keene Art Association. Lipman's works have been collected worldwide in such places as Saudi Arabia, Japan, Canada, and Bahrain. First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton was a collector of Lipman's Christmas ornaments, now in the collection of the Smithsonian.

Lipman was a state juried member of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen and of the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen. She was President of the Lancaster Designer - Craftsmen and the founder and President of Keystone Painters of the National Society of Decorative Painters. In 2010, Lipman was awarded a N.H. State Council on the Arts grant. She was a congregant of Ahavas Achim in Keene.

She is survived by her parents, Reba and Alfred Gottscho, husband, Henry Lipman, daughter, Beth Lipman, brothers, Steve and Rick Gottscho and her granddaughters, Rachel and Maria Sager. Private services will be held. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Ruth Gottscho Kidney Foundation www.gottschokidney.org.
