Henry Villaume Obituary

INTERVALE, N.H. -- Henry F Villaume, 85, of Intervale, died on July 17, 2016.

He was born February 25, 1931 to Frederick H and Marie (Peters) Villaume, with his twin sister, Elizabeth Ann, the first set of fraternal twins born at the Staten Island General Hospital. He grew up in West Nyack, New York, attending local schools. He was active in the Boy Scouts as a youth, to the level of Eagle Scout. At Nyack High School, Mr. Villaume earned Varsity letters in Football and in Field & Track, was elected to the National Honor Society and, as the red-haired, 6' tall football team captain, dated the red-haired, 6' tall, drum majorette.

While attending Columbia College, Mr. Villaume became a member of the Alpha Delta Phi fraternity, serving as an officer and, ultimately, President. He was also Chief Proctor of John Jay Hall. During this time, he talked a resident, literally, off the ledge. The Columbia crew team made him team manager to get him out of the shell, because he kept breaking oars. Mr. Villaume won the Columbia Lion for Outstanding Student his senior year. A 1954 graduate of Columbia College's School of Engineering, Mr. Villaume entered the US Navy as a Lieutenant JG to complete his ROTC service requirement, serving primarily in the North Atlantic on the USS Adroit and USS Hummingbird.

Before shipping off, Mr. Villaume married his lifelong love, Susette Bryant Adams.

Mr. Villaume enjoyed a long career as a mechanical engineer with a special interest in thermal management. After the Navy, he worked at NH Ball Bearing and Miniature Precision Ball Bearing in Peterborough; Air Products & Chemicals in Allentown, Pennsylvania; Howell Laboratories in Bridgton, Maine, and was self-employed as a business consultant for many years. His Sunday Morning Roundtables for local businesses and White Mountain Roundtables seminars were well attended and covered many business and technology topics. His Villaume Associates LLC presented thermal management seminars, designed products and solved thermal management issues for other companies, and was involved in many current technologies to help keep hot items cool. His crowning professional achievement, perhaps, is the heat sinks he designed, had manufactured, and delivered to NASA, who installed them at the International Space Station Ground Support facility in Houston. Mr. Villaume held many patents in his own right and in conjunction with his colleagues and various employers over the years.

Mr. Villaume and his family moved to Intervale, New Hampshire in August, 1969. He was active on the Town of Bartlett's Zoning and Planning Boards, provided advice to the town's School Board, and was actively involved in the North Conway Water Precinct in recent years.

He was well known and appreciated for his sense of humor, his intelligent wit, his business acumen, and his incisive political commentary.

Mr. Villaume leaves his wife of 62 years, Susette; his twin sister, Lizzie Villaume, of Boothbay, Maine; his son, Rick and daughter-in-law, Debra, of Peterborough; his daughter, Betsy and son-in-law Ken MacLeod, of Belmont, Massachusetts; his son, Peter and daughter-in-law, Laura, of Bartlett, New Hampshire and her family; his grandson, Patrick, of Easton, Pennsylvania; his nephew, David Walker and David's family, Kate, Ellie, Marc, and Jake; his niece, Katherine Walker, of Los Angeles, California; and many friends.

Visiting hours will be Thursday July 21, 2016 at Furber and White Funeral Home from noon to 2 p.m.; with services following at Christ Church Episcopal, N. Conway, N.H. at 3 p.m. Interment will be in Hancock, N.H., at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to FIRST, a national non-profit organization For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology; 200 Bedford Street, Manchester, N.H. 03101; www.firstinspires.org.

Henry was an inspiration for me to learn about designing heatsinks. He was a friendly mentor of mine for a short time many years ago. To this day I still rely on the basics he taught me.

I was very saddened to hear my old friend and Mentor Henry has left us. Henry was a true Mentor to me and taught me a lot of what I know today about Thermal Management and the Heatsink business. We did many projects together and he connected me with several people in the industry which has helped make my company very successful today. His seminars were very informative but fun. I also loved his dry sense of humor and the many lunch's were he would tell the waitress he was from the local newspaper and rating the restaurant we were in. We had the best service everywhere we went when Henry was there. I am truly going to miss him.

Henry was my boss, my friend, my mentor and a helluvah guy! A great sense of humor made work fun and for an entertaining traveling companion. Integrity, honesty, perseverance and a strong work ethic was how I viewed him whilst under his command. Topped with compassion and generosity. I will always remember he insisted on driving me and my fiancé to the airport for our California wedding. Along with the raise he awarded me prior to our honeymoon! He was that sort of person. I love that donations are going to FIRST. He roped me into that one year and I never forgave him! It was A LOT of extra work!!!! I will miss him but am glad we spoke not so long ago. He always talked of his family and it was obvious the love he had for them. My thoughts are with them. Happy trails my friend! I hope Saint Peter likes Bow Ties!
