Frederic McGreevy Obituary

MCGREEVY, FREDERICK CAMBRIDGE -Frederick Allen McGreevy, 64, of Cambridge, passed away peacefully Wednesday at Glens Falls Hospital with loving wife at his side following a brave 9 year battle with cancer. Born June 14, 1947 in Troy, NY, Fred was the son of the late Melvin and Anna (Gerst) McGreevy. Fred graduated from Hoosic Valley Central School in 1966. Fred proudly served in country with the U.S. Marine Corps. He began his career in 1968 with New York Telephone Co. in Albany. Fred retired in 2001 as a cable splicer with the company which is now known as Verizon after 33 years of faithful service. Fred was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Cambridge and was also a member of life member of the VFW Post #7291 of Greenwich, the Captain Maxson American Legion Post #634 in Cambridge for the last 36 years. He was a proud member of Communication Workers of America (CWA). Fred and his wife Peg enjoyed spending winters at his home in Flagler Beach, FL where they would walk the Intra Coastal Waterways watching dolphins play in the water. Fred truly loved the outdoors and animals and would walk the trails at Lake Lauderdale Park with his dogs. Fred is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Margaret "Peggy" McGreevy, whom he married July 18, 1980; his children, Joseph McGreevey and his wife Trude of Valley Falls, NY, Paul McGreevy and his wife Jenna of Salem, Timothy McGreevy of Port Orange, FL and Tracey Cranston and her husband Scott of Trumbull, CT; his mother and father-in-law, Raymond and Theresa Zerwick of Schuylerville. Fred is also survived by his brothers and sisters, W. Warren McGreevy and his wife Eleanor of Schaghticoke, Roy McGreevy and his wife Mary of Troy, David McGreevy and his wife Carla of Troy, MaryJane FitzGerald and her husband Thomas of Mechanicville and Martha McGreevy of Kingwood, TX; a brother-in-law, Timothy Zerwick of Schuylerville. Fred is also survived by his grandchildren, Kelly, Ryan and Dylan Cranston, Holdan McGreevy, Jennifer, Kyle and Carol McGreevy as well as many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, October 29, 2011 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 4 St. Luke's Place, Cambridge with Father Jim French officiating. Following the service, Fred's family invites everyone to join them for a luncheon and to continue to share memories of Fred at Henderson's Restaurant on Main St. in Schaghticoke. Interment will take place at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville at the convenience of the family. I knew Freddy growing up in Schaghticoke. He used to hang out with me and my dad up at the ski area when we were kids.
Even though I haven't seen Fred since the 1960's, I have always had a special place for him in my heart.
To who ever wrote the obituary, I thank you...you told his story well.
