Clyde Anderson Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch on Oct. 9, 2011.
ANDERSON, Clyde "Andy" Stevenson, 66, of Richmond, Va., passed away on October 7, 2011 after a courageous year- long struggle with pancreatic cancer. Mr. Anderson was born September 8, 1945 in Atlanta, Ga. He was preceded in death by his father, Preston L. Anderson; and mother, Ruby Tumlin Anderson. He is survived by his son, Michael Steven Anderson, of Merchantville, N.J.; daughter-in-law, Linda; and two grandchildren, Griffin and Kallie; his brother, Michael C. Anderson and wife, Judy, of Gadsden, Ala; his niece, Brandi Anderson; and nephew, Adam Anderson; his sister, Patricia V. Anderson, of Rome, Ga.; his "brother of the heart," Perry Bryant, of Sharpsburg, Ga.; and longtime companion, Joyce Melchert. A Vietnam veteran, Mr. Anderson served in the U.S. Navy from 1963 to 1970 aboard the U.S.S. Truxtun. During those years, Andy developed and maintained friendships that have lasted a lifetime. He loved sharing times with these cherished friends at Truxtun reunions. Following his service in the Navy, Mr. Anderson went on to graduate from North Carolina State, where he earned a degree in Nuclear Engineering. Mr. Anderson began his over 40 year career in the nuclear power industry as a senior instructor with General Electric. He subsequently formed and operated Paradigm Technical Corp., a technical consulting firm. For the last 20 years, Mr. Anderson provided a wide range of consulting services to nuclear power plants across the country, as well as China and Japan. In his work and in life, Mr. Anderson loved travel, exploring new places and meeting and connecting with people. Mr. Anderson was a devoted father, grandfather "Pop Pop," brother and loyal friend. He was truly happiest when he brought happiness to others. His family and many friends will deeply miss his sense of humor, his hearty laugh and his generous spirit. The family wishes to thank Mr. Anderson's physicians, Dr. George Meyerhoff, Dr. Gregory Formanek and Dr. Dennis Cohen for their compassionate care and support throughout his illness, and the many wonderful nurses and staff at Bon Secours, St. Mary's Hospital for their steadfast care during his chemotherapy treatments and hospitalizations. A memorial service to celebrate Mr. Anderson's life will be held at a later date in Fayetteville, Ga. Donations in his memory may be made to the Bon Secours Cancer Resource Center, 5875 Bremo Road, Suite 108, Richmond, Va. 23226.

Andy was a good friend and a wonderful person to work with, but I think we what we will all miss most is his wonderful sense of humor. He had a lot of laughs with me, and quite a few at me, as he was an adept practical joker as well! The world will be a poorer place in his absence.

Andy and I have been friends for nearly 40 years in the nuclear industry. We have been involved in many projects together. He was a true professional and a joyal friend. It still brings a mile whenever we used to tell our "redneck stories" about how we grew up in rural georgia. You will be missed, my friend.
God bless you Joyce. May the good Lord grant you peace during your time of sorrow.

We're sorry to hear that Andy has passed away. I served in the USN with Andy from 1964 to 1970 and have maintained the true bond as a shipmate to this day. It was great visiting with Andy once more in May this year. I'll miss your frequent and often numerous emails. Penny and I will miss your camaraderie at future Truxtun reunions.
