Much love to Garry's family, bandmates, team and fans. Garry Roberts is a significant musical hero of mine, and I'm very sorry that he's gone. My own friends and bandmates since college have kindly weathered my keen interest in the music of The Boomtown Rats. Discovering "A Tonic for the Troops," "The Fine Art of Surfacing," and then moving throughout the catalog were revelatory and inspirational. I'm thankful for what Garry created and left behind.

If it wasn't for Garry, there would be no Boomtown Rats! I grew up with your music, and still love it today.
As well as his guitar playing, I also loved his dry wit.

Really sad to hear this news.
I remember being 17, seeing the Rats at Worthing Assembly Halls in 1983.
I never had the nerve to speak to any of the Rats before. But, there was Garry at the end of the show and I gulped and took my chance.
What a bloke, took time out, really down to earth guy. RIP

I was 12 years of age when Rat Trap hit number 1, I was already a fan by then. For a Dublin boy like me, the Rats were the driving force. To form my own band, which I did, and to believe anything could be achieved. Thanks for the music Garry, it will continue to inspire and thrill for generations to come.
