Norman was one of the greatest base players in the this country. He could sing a country song that would make the best stand up and listen. He was one of the nicest, accomadating, and cheerful guys that you will ever meet. He was always willing to help anyone that he could that was more unfortunate than he was. When Norman gets to heaven, If God needs a base player, he'll choose Norman.

Pam -
We don't know one another. Though I used to go listen to Norman sing and joked about being a relative of his, I realize today that he and I were first cousins. His dad, Ralph, was my dad's brother. Norman and I really were related. I read the article in the newspaper last week about Norman's death. It has taken me until today to look at the obituary online. That's when I discovered the relationship. Ralph had two brothers and three sisters. All but possibly one sister are gone now. But my dad used to tell me about his brother, Ralph, who died before I was born. I am sorry to hear of Norman's death.

Dear Pam,
Iam very sorry to hear of your loss. I met Norman and you 33 years ago at Smuglers Cove and followed the band to many places. People said I looked like Noman and wanted to know if he was my Father, jokingly, he said he was. Now to help you remember me, I was married to Bobby Joe, Clarks old school friend. Norman will be missed but never forgotten. My prayers and heart are with you.

Pam, I am so sorry that I did not know about Norman leaving us going to a better place. I will never forget going to the 1890 when I wasn't even old enough to get in. I always managed to get in every chance I got. I even went to the Gold Nugget in Panama city everytime that he played there. Pam do you remember the shirt you brought me not long ago. It says To Guess My Age Dial 1-800-OLD-FART. I will never forget you or Norman. If their is anything that I can for you Just give me a call. Love Ya, Diane

Pam, lets go back 37 years ago. I was 17 years old and came to Dothan with my then husband, Donnie gumms. Donnie took David Tedder's place playing drums for Norman. Oh so many memories! Like I told you on the phone recently, we could write a book. The band played at the Oasis. The members were Norman, Donnie Gumms, Dennis McAbee and Howard Martin. How great they were! I always loved to hear Norman sing, and when ever I came to the club Norman would always do Stand By Me and dedicate it to me, cause he knew I loved to hear him do it. You were both our family in Dothan. I'm so glad that I got to talk to him a few months ago. Our love and prayers are with you. Love you both!

I first heard of Norman and Pam when Norman played with Howard Martin and David Tedder in Savannah , Ga, and then they came back to the Oasis. Doug Morris played with Norman at The Club. I worked with Pam at the Carriage House. Norman and Pam were always willing to help you in any way they could. They helped me and my children alot of times. They were truly good friends. I used to go hear Norman , Howard Martin, Doug and them play. You just could not find a better singer than Norman. Pam, we will miss him alot but at least he is not alone. There is Howard Martin, John Rainey, Little Bill,
David Tedder, Lamar Alley. These were the musicians I knew.

I remember Norman from when he played with my dad (Doug Morris) and Pam would always keep me occupied. If I remember correctly Howard Martin played with them at this time. These are and will be some greatly missed guys. These were the good-ol days!

Pam,
I was very sadden to hear about Norman. Everyone who saw and heard Norman and the band, were exposed to some of the best music, talent and showmanship in this part of the US. No One could do "Stand By Me" like Norman!!! However, one thing did improve the show...... That, of course, was you on the dance floor. Makes an old mans heart speed up!! I still think and talk about the short visit you, Norman and I had in the waiting room at Dixieland, last year. I still laugh about that. I feel blessed to have been able to see and hear such talent and to be able to call you friends. Also everytime I get mad at my cat and yell, I have to look around to make sure you are not watching me!!!

Much love and Prayers!

Norman was the most influential person in my life as a musician. He was like a father, brother, friend, teacher, and mentor to me, and surely to many others as well. He and Pam had hearts as big as a house. A few months ago when he was feeling a bit stronger, we had a good long talk, revisited some fond memories, and had some great laughs. We parted on the high note, with full hearts....
Peace, my friend.

Pam, I'm sad to hear the news, the passing of the man with the "gift", his light of talent blinded us all, and set the standard for all musicians who heard and followed.. unbelievable on stage, but very believable offstage. If the true legacy of Wiregrass music is ever written, Norman I,m voting for you on the cover.

Pam,
For those of us who remember, we were certainly fortunate to have been a part of "the good ole days" of live club music in Dothan. Naively, we never realized it would end, we would grow older and our friends would begin leaving us. But sadly, these days are here. I will always treasure my days listening to Norman & The Concrete Bubble & will remember that he certainly was a CARD!!
Find peace & comfort in your many memories of Norman.
God Bless,
Deb

Pam I'm very sorry to hear Norman has left us. He will be missed and forever remembered. I got to spend a couple of times with Norman while he was at the medical center. We had a good time laughin and talking about the band days. Norman told me he didn't have any problems with his breathin until he quit singing. Norman was as good as it got. He could really sing a song. It was just like or better than the original. He's got a super good band now. John Rainey and Lamar on guitar. Willie on the keys. Big Kenneth on bass. And his old buddy David Tedder on drums. Norman. thanks for all the good times and memories you brought to so many people.

Norman was the man to go hear when the ol' Strip was rockin' back in the late '60s and early '70s when I was getting started, and for many years thereafter. Besides being a truly great talent, he was a very unique person and a good friend. My prayers go out to the loved ones left behind. Lamar, Kenneth and Willie have a front man, now. GC

Dear Pam;
I am sorry to hear about Norman passing. I didn't get to hear Norman sing but, I want to thank you for being such a good friend. You also took care of my son when we both needed it the most. I read an article not that long ago in one of the “slick” Dothan publications that had a title something on the order of “Dothan Music – Past, Present & Future.” It talked of Dothan’s golden era of live music, deservedly praising some of the musicians that made Dothan a hotbed of good pickers, but fell terribly short in it’s recognition of the Musicians that REALLY made Dothan such a great music scene.
In my opinion, and the cats that really know, during the “Golden Era” of Live music in Dothan, Norman was one of the Gods.

I among others have many fond memories of Norman and "The Bubble"
playing and singing to entertain all of us wild and wooly dancers at the many venues they played. Norman was one of a kind, one who could, more often than not, sing a song much better than the original artist. He will be missed.

My husband and I have lived on the shelter with Pam and Norman for the last eight years. I have never met anyone as loving and unselfish as the two of them. Norman was the most unique person I have ever had the honor to call a friend. I have heard hundreds of stories from Norman about his band and the network of friends that he met back when he was singing- he really loved you all so much-We will miss you Norman-Heavens gain is indeed our loss!

danced many nights to his great music. Norman, thanks so much for all

Pam,
Dainne and I wish to express our deepest sympathy to you. I will always remeber fondly my time as a member of the "bubble" at the 1890 club. As a young musician I learned much from Norman and his passing brings me much sadness. Music has truly lost one of its' sages. May God bless and confort you. Dianne and I hope to see you soon.

Respectfully,

I have fond memories of Norman and his band, The Concrete Bubble, and the old days at the 1890 Lounge and even before that at the old Oasis Club. That was back when bands ruled the night club scene and not karaoke and such and Norman's band was always at the top of the heap. May he rest in peace.

I'm just so proud I got to know Norman. I don't think anyone who knew him or was lucky enough to work with him has ever mentioned an unkind word about him.

That speaks volumes to me.

Norman always was and always will be a musician's, musician.

Dearest Pam & family -- I can remember how much fun and enjoyment Norman and his band brought to the younger folks in SE Alabama, Georgia & Florida. As we grew older the memories have become more precious. As far as the work you both have done loving and caring for animals, you know the heart of a person by the way he/she cares for animals and little children. There is a passage in the book of life praising the work you both have so diligently aspired to do. God bless you all and comfort you knowing that Norman is with God doing his work in heaven.

I first met Pam and Norman at the 1890 where we all worked and starved together. Pam and I worked various places with each other after that, our longest time was at the Carriage House. We had so many good times together. Norman, as well as Pam was always there if you needed them. Generosity was the first word in Norman's vocabulary. We could all have learned lessons from him. He helped many musicians in this area to get a start. God Bless and receive you with open arms, Norman.
