IRVIN PARLATO Obituary

IRVIN JOSEPH PARLATO March 22, 1943 - December 17, 2018 Forever rallying 'Down the Isle' at Heaven Downs, waiting for the reporting of the pitchers and catchers, or pulling pranks, with a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye is the immortal legacy of a community legend. Irvin Parlato, known for his unparalleled hospitality, sharp wit, loyal friendship, inspiring generosity, encyclopedic knowledge of sports (among many things in general), will forever be an integral, beloved part of Fortuna's heart and history. Irvin Joseph Parlato passed, at home, peacefully, on December 17th, 2018. Eight years after his birth, March 22, 1943 Irv and his family moved to Humboldt County to assist family with the Fernbridge Inn. Marie (mother) and Joseph (father) eventually moved on to open Parlato's Restaurant, a Fortuna favorite that served our community for over 50 years. Irvin is survived by his ex-wife and life long friend Karen, his daughters Katrina, and Cara, his son Matthew and his wife Carolyn, his sister and brother-in-law Joy and Robert Wotherspoon, grandchildren Olivia and Sydney, nephews Robert and Mark along with numerous loved great nieces and nephews. An open Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, January 26that the River Lodge in Fortuna from 2-5 p.m. Donations can be made to the Fortuna Rotary Foundation in c/o Irvin Parlato Scholarship Fund. So very sorry to read of Irv's passing. I absolutely adored his parents and he was an awesome guy. Whenever my family would be at Parloto's to eat, he always gave my boys a set of baseball cards. He had a great smile and was a people person. He loved his customers and made it a point to greet and visit with them, a kind person. He will be missed by many, but not forgotten. Please know that your family is in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Remember and hold dear the lessons and memories he left with you. (My family had the Anchor in Eureka and we loved to patronize each other, and we were sorry when they closed).

I first met Irv while working at the Humboldt County Fair, some 25 years ago, and he immediately impressed me with his overall love of horse racing, and,in particular, horse racing at Ferndale. Irv was so welcoming and generous that he made me feel like I was a friend, rather than an interloper from So Cal. He took time from his busy schedule at the restaurant to inquire how things were going at the fair - and to see if we needed anything. He always went out of his way to make sure his customers were satisfied. He was a great man, and I am so very sorry to hear of his passing. My sincere condolences to his family.

Barbara and I are saddened to hear of Irv's passing. We have nothing but fond memories of dining at Parlato's and visiting with Irv and Marie. A plate of spaghetti topped with Marie's spaghetti sauce garnished with mushrooms sautéed in butter and garlic was heavenly. The steaks, seafood, boned fried chicken etc. all were beyond compare. R.I.P. Irv we'll miss you.

You will be missed old friend. We first met as kids playing Basketball in Weott, Ca.1955 then after the flood we lost contact until one day a few years ago we stopped by your work in Fortuna, was a great time seeing you again. God Bless your Family, and Friends, during this time.

Irv was the kindest and most generous person I have ever known. He was the proud owner of Parlatos restaurant. He loved visiting with every customer that came in the restaurant. He supported local sports and could be seen with a radio in his ear listening to the Giants. He was a proud board member on the Humboldt County Fair Board. We all loved you Irv and we will never forget you.
