Frank Winsor Obituary

Frank Weston Winsor

Frank Weston Winsor, 74, of Palm Springs, CA, passed away peacefully at home on May 27, 2021, with his husband by his side.

Born in San Francisco on August 6, 1946, he graduated from Sequoia High School in Redwood City and received his bachelor's degree in business from Golden Gate University. After his studies, he was a Head Start teacher. Frank became a successful investor and real estate broker in San Francisco and Palm Springs and received numerous awards and recognitions in both cities. He was one of the longest serving board members of his family's Boise, ID, based The Harry Morrison Foundation. Appointed by his legendary aunt Velma Morrison, he adoringly referred to her as "my Auntie Mame."

In 2013, Frank married his beloved husband Michael A. Wilber, an NBC News national entertainment reporter professionally known as Mike Wilber. With their shared passion for travel and adventure, they circumnavigated the globe and explored much of the United States, especially the national parks. Culturally and politically active, Frank was honored to be invited to sit in the presidential reviewing stand for President Bill Clinton's first inaugural parade, to be a guest numerous times of Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and Senator Ted Kennedy, and to attend a royal movie premier in London in honor of Queen Elizabeth II. Frank was an advocate and generous supporter of the Palm Springs Animal Shelter and other programs to address AIDS/HIV, food insecurity, and child abuse prevention.

Preceded in death by his father Fred Winsor and mother Clara Jahn Winsor, Frank is survived by his spouse Michael, many cousins and great-nieces and nephews who nicknamed him "Uncle Fun." Frank created a large loving family of lifelong friends who will forever remember him and his kindness, optimism and laughter.

A private celebration of Frank's life will be held later this month. Donations in memory of Frank Winsor may be made to The Palm Springs Animal Shelter, 4575 E. Mesquite Avenue, Palm Springs, CA 92264, or at [email protected].

Can't believe it is a whole year since your passing, my beloved friend. I have missed you so many times throughout this past year. Mostly, I miss our talks somehow after them life made more sense during these challenging (at least) times. Love from your friend since grammar school.

One of my oldest friends. Since he moved to Palm Springs we lost touch but he will always have a place in my heart. Lovely man! Handsome beyond!

Frank was my "office cube mate" for a number of years when I first started in Real Estate at Pacific Union over 30 years ago. He was great fun to share the small space as he was very helpful and guided me through a lot of my initial work. We continued to stay in contact after he moved to Palm Springs and I was sorry to hear about his health conditions towards the end. Sadly he was going to visit me in SF later this year. My sincerest condolences to Mike and the rest of his family. He was much loved and respected.

Frank and I were friends since 3rd grade, he was special to me. He and his mom helped me cover my books and we remained good friends through the years. I will mostly miss the fun with Frank and especially the laughing. I will also miss our commiserating over the last 4 years. You were loved Frank and a very special person in my life.

Frank and I met as coworkers but became good friends for four decades. I will miss his unique puckish sense of humor
