Stephen Reich Obituary

Stephen Gregory Reich, age 90, passed away peacefully at home on June 25, 2021, in Winter Springs, Florida. Beloved husband of Shyla Reich, dedicated father of Robert and John (Shayna), loving grandfather of Morgan, Evan, Holden, Heaton and Wilder, and uncle to Lance Reich of Seattle. Steve is preceded in death by his brother, Lawrence Reich of Tampa.

Born on January 25, 1931 in Mt. Vernon, NY, Steve graduated from Columbia University, where he played varsity baseball and football, before serving in the U.S. Marine Corps as 1st Lieutenant. Following his service, he returned to Columbia University where he received his MBA.

In 1958 he married Shyla Giller at the Palm Beach Country Club and moved to Orlando in 1959. During their 63 long love affair, he was a top producer for Home Life Insurance for over 35 years. In the 1980's, Steve took over the Central Florida Baseball League, a summer league for college players at Tinker Field; his dedication and commitment made it successful, all while coaching his own sons in the sport.

Steve was an avid tennis player, golfer and he enjoyed riding good horses. He was a cowboy at heart and most loved being at his ranch in Springdale, Montana with his family. He felt his friends were his biggest asset and he shared his generous sense of humor with them all. He was a longtime member of the Interlachen Country Club in Winter Park, Florida, where his presence on the court and the links will be greatly missed. Steve never met a stranger and he developed lifelong relationships around the globe as a seasoned traveler.

The Reich family would like to express special appreciation to the compassionate caregivers who helped make Steve most comfortable and loved before his passing: Media, Aisha and Hilda.

In lieu of flowers to the family, donations may be made in Steve's memory to the Landscape Beautification Fund at the Congregation of Reform Judaism in Orlando, FL.

Ironically, I made a grammar error in my previous comment. Steve would have corrected me on this! It should have read I have very fond memories of he and your family. Lori

I am so sorry to see that Steve passed away. I knew him from working out at the Orlando Tennis and Racquet Club in the 1980´s. He was indeed one of the friendliest fellows I ever met. He and Shyla were truly gracious.

Shyla, I was so saddened to hear of Steve's passing. He was very kind and patient with me on the tennis court and I always enjoyed talking with him. I regret not taking him up on his offers to come visit both of you in Montana. I'm very sorry for your loss.
