John O'Brien Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by T.J. McGowan Sons Funeral Homes - Garnerville on Feb. 3, 2026.
It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our cherished Jack O'Brien. Jack was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend to so many. Jack was born in The Bronx in 1961 to the late John O'Brien and Kathleen (O'Leary) O'Brien and spent his whole life living in North Rockland. He attended St. Gregory Barbarigo and graduated from North Rockland High School.

Jack married the love of his life, Mary (DePasquale) O'Brien, in 1986 and raised three beautiful daughters.

Jack worked for years as a mechanic and later attended Columbia University, ultimately landing him his first job at Smith Barney. He went on to work as a Logistics Manager for both Chrysler and Mercedes Benz USA, from which he retired.

It was rare to find Jack without music blasting around him and reading about any topic he could educate himself on. He prided himself on not ever needing a handy man, as he truly was a "Jack of All Trades." He was always searching for the next best concert to attend with his friends and family, or even drag his then 3rd grade daughter out of school when no one else would go with him.

Jack will be remembered by his kind smile, seriously dry sense of humor, and always having his great hair even through eight years of chemotherapy. Jack had so many friends because to know him was to love him. His family was his whole world, including family members outside of his own home. He was just a really, really good guy and he will be sorely missed.

Jack is survived by his wife Mary O'Brien, his daughters Karly Corley (Brian), Tara Baer (Alex), and Shae O'Brien, as well as the lights of his life, his grandson Finn Baer and his granddaughter Reece Corley. He is also survived by his sisters Kathleen and Eileen O'Brien. He is predeceased by his brother Michael.

Jack was always resilient and determined to "beat this sh*t."

Visitation will take place on Wednesday, February 4th from 4 to 8 PM at T. J. McGowan's, 71 N Central Hwy, Garnerville, N.Y. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 5th at 10 AM at The Church of the Immaculate Conception, 26 John Street, Stony Point, N.Y. Interment will follow at Ascension Cemetery, Airmont, N.Y.

Jack's family requests in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Shae will be running The San Francisco Marathon in his memory this coming July.

To the O'Brien Family,
In the short time that I knew him when I started working here at MBUSA in Atlanta, Jack was always in a good mood and eager to help his colleagues.
From time to time, we would joke around and have fun conversations... lol
He ask me where in Atlanta he could find some good bands and music to go see and listen, turns out he visited many other cities throughout the south in his quest !
As a Dad myself we'd discuss our daughters and even after he moved back home we still stayed in touch.
Time as passed and so has Jack.
He surely will be missed.

With Sympathy,
Christopher Corso
