Wayne Fontanelle Obituary

Published by Briscoe-Tonic Funeral Home - Mechanicsville from Oct. 28 to Oct. 29, 2021.
Wayne Winston Fontanelle, affectionately known as "Moses", departed this earthly life on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at the age of 66 in Charleston, South Carolina.

Wayne was born on September 20, 1955, to the union of Winston Fontanelle ("Tippy") and Lucille Fontanelle ("Barbara") in Georgetown, Guyana. As a child, the family moved to Washington DC, where Wayne would spend his childhood years.

Wayne graduated from Frank Ballou Senior High School in 1974. He was a graduate of Howard University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Engineering. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served his country as a Sergeant E-5 Engineman. He later transferred to the U.S. Army Reserves from December 1993 while working as a Fire Fighter with St. Andrews Fire Department until he retired in 2017. He served in Afghanistan from August 2002 thru May 2003. After he retired, he worked at Personal Care Ambulance as a Patient Transporter thru May 2021.

Wayne met the love of his life, Ann Peters, whom he cherished dearly. The lovebirds were married in 1982 and shared 39 wonderful years together. Besides spending time with his family and friends, Wayne enjoyed playing semi-pro football with the Charleston Hawks. He enjoyed watching the local Charleston Battery soccer team. Active in a number of community organizations during his 33 years he lived in South Carolina, Wayne served as Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus Council. His other contributions to the Carolinian community included coaching the kid's soccer team, volunteering at the homeless shelter and a proud member of the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist Church, where he served as an Usher. He took extreme pride in his 3 godchildren, Angel Archer, Daniel Archer and Malcolm Nazon.

Wayne leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife, Ann; his brothers, Terrance Fontanelle and Andrew Fontanelle; his sister, Mechelle Williams; his sisters-in-law, Valerie, Deborah, Marcelle and Diane; brothers-in-law, Sam, Jr., Glen, Terry and Vallon; father-in-law, Hulbert Peters (Doreen); nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Winston Fontanelle; his mother, Lucille Fontanelle; his sister, Colleen Swilling, and his brother, Rory ("Bobo") Fontanelle.

Wayne has touched many lives as a husband, brother, uncle, friend and godfather. His legacy will live in the hearts and minds of everyone he interacted with.

He was warm, loving and a true REDSKINS Fan. His kind-heartedness, generosity, and compassion will be remembered by all.

Family and friends will gather on Tuesday, November 2, 2021 for visitation at 9:00 am - 10:00 am; service at 10:00 am until 11:00 am at Calvary Gospel Family Life Center,11150 Berry Rd, Waldorf, MD 20603.
