Martin Maggiani Obituary

Published by McCafferty Sweeney Slabinski Barnes Funerals and Cremations from Nov. 30 to Dec. 1, 2021.
Martin Maggiani, born on November 16, 1955 in Philadelphia Pa. to Lavina & Daniel, peacefully gained his wings on the morning of Saturday, November 27, 2021 with his loving wife by his side. Martin is beloved and survived by his wife Karen & daughter Sandra Sliwinski (Andrew). He was the greatest Pop-pop ever (with mugs & cards to prove it) to Nathan, Scott and Drew. The second of seven siblings, Marty is survived by Daniel (Colleen), Michael, Robert, Kathleen Galante (late Anthony) and Theresa Zenak (Paul). He was also a wonderful nephew to both Aunt Anne (late Bob) & Aunt Helen. He loved his many cousins dearly & Uncle Marty was just the best according to each of his nieces and nephews. Preceded in death recently by his brother Mauro, he kept his streak of being second right until the end. Marty was born in Philadelphia, before the family moved first to Bristol, then Cinnaminson NJ before returning to Philadelphia where he finished grade school at St Joachim's then attended North Catholic high school before graduating from Frankford. After high school (wink, wink), he was the ultimate hippie and hitchhiked to California for a while. Upon his return to the east coast, he stayed in the family business & honed his craft as an amazing baker. Among his many careers after: Disco World bouncer, taxi driver, dispatcher, salesman & small business owner (meat sales & home improvement). He was most proud of his years as a pile driver & would like everyone to know that he helped build every bridge on Route 30 in NJ near Wildwood. In his later years, he became the best salesman at Five star Home Foods. Marty was always an athlete, especially enjoying baseball and he passed along his love and knowledge of the sport to his grandchildren. He spent nearly every spring & summer weekend enjoying their games. The other weekends he spent bragging about how great they are to his friends. Another great passion was music, Marty was a self-taught guitarist, piano player, and a naturally gifted singer. Everyone looked forward to hearing Marty jam. Above all else, Marty loved his family and enjoyed nothing more than and spending time with them. He was witty & smart and will always be "the coolest guy at the party". He will be forever missed by 'The Crowd' mostly because of all the baked goods he so generously gave away and brought to every crowd function. Please join in celebrating Marty's life by attending his viewing on Saturday December 4th from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM in Christ the King Church 3252 Chesterfield Road. His funeral mass will begin 10:30 AM and interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Please share your fondest memories of Marty at PhillyFunerals.com. Love you Dad♥

When my dad Mauro (his brother) was a single father my uncle never hesitated to help out with babysitting. I remember Sandra scolding me for still liking rap music (90s rap) and saying when I'm older I'll start listening to more rock and roll. Well she was right you'll be missed uncle Marty but you have the best of company and angels up there ❤Add

Every memory I have, has a laugh and a smile attached to it. That was Marty.

I have a memory of eating over the Maggiani's house when I was little. Marty walked in, gave his mom a kiss on the cheek and plopped down in the chair next to me. I think he could tell I was intimidated by the huge family around the table. He looked at me, gave me a nudge and said, "eat something" and flashed a big giant smile at me. Lots of good memories at the Maggiani house. I'm sad for the family and the loss they're experiencing.

Somebody needs to get this started. It's hard to put into words right now. My deepest condolences to Karen, Sandra and all of Marty's family. He left us way too early. He will me missed more than he could ever imagine. I will miss all of the great times and laughs we shared together on vacations, parties and just hanging out. I will miss playing guitar together and his raspy voice when he sang. I will especially miss his baked goodies. No one could make a muffin or cinnamon bun like Marty. He was truly one of a kind who always had an opinion and let it be known. We didn't always agree but always respected each other's opinions. That's what true friends do and Marty was certainly a true friend. Love you brother!
