San Luis Obispo, California - It is with deep sorrow and regret that we announce the passing of Matthew Allen Barba, 36, of Santa Maria, CA and more recently, Las Vegas, Nevada. Matthew died unexpectedly on Friday, December 30th, 2022. Matt was born to Ronald Barba and Lynne Aldridge on June 9, 1986, in San Luis Obispo. As a child, Matt was naturally athletic and played basketball, football, and baseball for Orcutt and Santa Maria Boys and Girls Club. He also played varsity basketball at Saint Joseph High School all four years and was the Most Improved Player in the 2001-2002 season. He graduated from Righetti High School in 2004 and went on to attend Grossmont Junior College until 2005 when he joined the Marines. Matt was an assistant basketball coach for his father Ron at Cuesta College for many years and helped run the West Coast Xtreme Basketball Academy where he was well respected by players, parents, and coaches alike. Matt loved spending time with his family and friends and in particular was passionate about his dog Koa, who was always at his side.
Matthew is survived by his father Ronald Barba, brother Charles Barba, sister Courtney Barba, and cousin Jayna Barba. He is also survived by his grandmother Jeanne Aldridge, his stepbrother Tony Reynolds, his two aunts, Susan Aldridge and Deborah Smith, as well as Craig Smith, and many other family and friends, including Matt's new but significant friend, Jenna Jordan. Matthew is preceded in death by his mother Lynne and many loved ones who welcomed him with comforting arms.
Rosary will be held on January 11, 2023, at 6pm at Reis Family Mortuary in San Luis Obispo. Funeral services will be held at 9am on Thursday, January 12, 2023, at Nativity Church, also in San Luis Obispo. Burial will follow at Los Osos Valley Memorial Park in Los Osos. A reception for Celebrating Matthew's Life will take place at The Red Barn in Los Osos (2180 Palisades Ave), beginning at 1pm on Thursday, January 12, 2023.

Matthew "Barbs" was a beatfriend growing up. Matt is a Og. Loyal passionate and could handle his own.say high to Brad for me in heaven. You always had you Great mother on your heart. Now your with her. His family welcomed me in. I have great memories of Chaz magic and patty and good ol Ronny. It breaks my heart but i am very lucky to be friends with Barb I will honor you for ever brother. SMBALLERS FOR EVER. Matt was one of my brother Brad Comaduran's best friends. Even after Brad's passing, Matt always made it a point to remember him and to check in on our family. I loved and appreciated him for that.
He was a great friend and a good person. I know his heart had been broken too many times loosing family and so many close friends, I hope you find a little peace knowing he will be greeted by so many.
My sincerest condolences go out to his Dad and family and friends. I will do my best to remember Matt, just as he did my brother. I'm sure those two are reunited and probably bouncing around the clouds somewhere. Rest easy Matt...1
