FUNERAL HOME

John Hagan Obituary

John "Tom" Hagan of Spring Lake, age 68, was called home on February 8, 2023, following a battle with health issues.

He is lovingly survived by his wife of 28 years, Shawn; children, Kelly (Craig) Black of Fort Mill, SC; Tom Hagan of Grand Rapids, MI; Brittany (Daniel) West of Muskegon, MI; and Courtney (Scott) Stephen of Roseville, CA; grandchildren, Danielle and Tyler (Ashley) Stephen, Alex, Tyler and Lyla Black, McKenzie and Dylan Wright; great-grandchild, Olivia Stephen.

He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas "Joe" and Eileen Hagan and sister Sharon Flaherty.

He worked for the Michigan Liquor Control Commission for over 43 years. He worked in MLCC Enforcement his entire career and in 2002 was promoted to a Regulation Manager and became the Enforcement Director in 2010.

He enjoyed volunteering at church, playing guitar, riding his motorcycle, boating, and spending time with family and friends.

He went to St. John Vianney, Wyoming Park High School, and Grand Valley State University.

Tom had a loving soul – never judging anyone for their path in life. He held his arms open to all he encountered. He treasured deep conversations about life and of the soul. He was the purest of all who have walked this earth. He was loved by his family and friends more deeply than we could ever convey. We will miss him, we will cherish him, for all time.

The funeral for Tom will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February, 14, 2023, at Harvest Spring Lake Campus, 225 E. Exchange St., Spring Lake, MI 49456. Friends may meet the family from 5–8 p.m. on Monday, February 13, at Harvest Spring Lake Campus.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society. Interment will be in Spring Lake Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to The Spring Lake Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 213 E. Savidge St., Spring Lake, MI 49456.

We lived on Forest Ave starting in 1985 which is when I first met the Hagan Family. Tom was such a dear gentle man and always smiling. He loved his kids and so enjoyed seeing the neighborhood kids interact!! Please accept my condolences Kelly and Tommy and the rest of your family - you are all in my thoughts and prayers. Many memories to hold dear to your hearts.
