Henry Scheil Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 5, 2026.
Henry (Hank) Wilson Scheil, of Grand Haven, Michigan was called to eternal rest in Christ on Monday, February 2, 2026 at Heartwood Lodge in Spring Lake. He was 76.

Hank was born on July 1, 1949 in Grand Haven to Carl and Lois Scheil. He was a graduate of Grand Haven High School and attended Michigan State for industrial engineering. Hank spent most of his career as an industrial engineer in the automotive industry. He was a proud father, papa, and lifelong member of the Lutheran church. Hank always said that when he got too old to go fast, he would give up his Mustangs and get a Corvette. For many years now, he has been in the Corvette club. In addition to the love of his Corvette, he enjoyed hunting, watching Michigan State, and doting on his dog Willow.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Scheil of Grand Haven; his siblings Michael (Marcia) Scheil of Flomaton, AL, Russell (Beverly) Scheil of West Olive, MI, Melinda (Randy) Nieusma of Saugatuck, MI, and Richard Scheil of Wyoming, MI; his children Chris (Amy) Scheil of Nashville, MI, Heidi (Mark) Sawko of Montgomery, IL, Robert (Trista) Scheil of Caro, MI, and Joshua Scheil of Caro, MI. He is also survived by his stepchildren Stephanie (James) Hands of Albuquerque, NM, David (Anna) Hollar of Grand Haven, MI, and Betsy (Chris) Bekins of Grand Haven, MI. Hank is also survived by his 10 grandchildren: Andrew, Evelyn, Eain, Elise, Eynon, Allison, Grabrielle, Bella, Sam, and Dorie along with his 3 great-grandchildren.

Hank was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Carl (Butch) Scheil, his sister Cheryl Chasteen; his wife Betty Scheil; and stepson Ric Smith.

A memorial will be held on Saturday February 21, 2026 at St. John's Lutheran Church 527 Taylor Ave, Grand Haven, MI at 11:00 AM with a visitation prior to the service starting at 10:00 AM.

In memory of Hank, the family welcomes donations to St. John's Lutheran School or Hospice at Trinity Health in lieu of flowers.
