Steven Russell Scheil, age 59, of Turtle Lake, WI, passed away peacefully at his home on September 26, 2025, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Throughout his illness, Steve remained strong in spirit and unwavering in hope.

Steve was born on April 29, 1966, at Barron Hospital to Erwin and Ilene Scheil. He was raised on the family dairy farm in Hillsdale, where he developed a deep appreciation for hard work, family, and the simple joys of rural life-values that stayed with him throughout his lifetime.

Steve married Theresa Smith, and together they raised two daughters, Stephanie and Ashley, whom he was extremely proud of. In April 2009, he married Joy Benemerito, his devoted partner who remained lovingly by his side until his final moments. Steve and Joy shared many years of adventure and travel, building lasting memories together.

A skilled and passionate truck driver, Steve could navigate anywhere with ease and confidence, often knowing the best route without needing a map. He especially enjoyed his years driving for Nordquist Trucking in Almena, where he built lasting friendships and took pride in his work.

Family and friends were at the heart of Steve's life. He cherished time spent with his wife, children, grandchildren, and loved ones-moments filled with laughter, storytelling, and genuine connection.

Steve is survived by his beloved wife, Joy; daughters Stephanie (Luke) Kunesh and Ashley (Robby Wilson) Estreen; grandchildren Jaetyn, Jaxtyn, Riley, and Jarek; sister Connie (Vince) Genatempo; brothers-in-law: Ernesto Jr. Benemerito, Wilson Benemerito, and Kerby Macan; nieces Melissa (Burt) Wardall and Krista Townsend; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Erwin and Ilene Scheil; brother, Douglas Scheil; nephew, Dustin Scheil; and parents-in-law, Ernesto and Maria Victoria Benemerito.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff at Marshfield Hospice for their exceptional care and compassion during Steve's final days.

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Almena, WI, with Pastor Ike Nicholson officiating. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the church. A private family burial will take place at Wayside Cemetery in Barron, WI.

Skinner Funeral Home of Turtle Lake is assisting the family with arrangements.
