Richard Johnson Obituary

Richard J. Johnson 1956 - 2022 Holyoke Born on March 3, 1956 and passed away November 26, 2022, Richard J. Johnson of Holyoke MA has now joined his wife and true love "Winnie". She meant the world to him and he missed her dearly. Richard was predeceased by his wife Edwinna "Winnie" Mullen, parents Jesse D. and Mary (Silva) Johnson, and Brother Jesse D. Johnson II. Richard is survived by brother, Robert Johnson and his wife Sue; sisters, Beth Johnson and Alice Perkins and husband Scott Perkins; his Step-daughter Stefanie Mullen, nieces, Caressa Kislus and Marisa Perkins; nephews Jeremy Kislus, Jesse D. Johnson III and Christopher Johnson. Richard also had great nieces, Jillian Kislus and Felicity Kislus, Sophia Johnson and great nephew, Christian Johnson. After high school he left on a motorcycle trip going to Alaska - starting the journey with his friends Dave, Mike and Ray, and continuing on with Dave meeting Doug from Oregon. He traveled across country a few times after that meeting up with Doug. He loved to point out that he was born in Long Beach CA while the rest of his family was born in MA. Richard enjoyed his St. Augustine home when he was able to fit time into his busy schedule. He worked for Lane Construction and his own business Johnson Pavers and Excavators. He was part of the IUOE Local 98 Union. His neighbors remember him for taking the time to plow all of them out during the winter storms. They have many kind words for him. He enjoyed traveling, hunting, snowmobiling, and could be found in the company of his many friends. His hunting trips usually ended up with him cooking for his hunting buddies. There is so much his friend Brian shared with me about Rick and his hunting trips. I love hearing about them. So many memories he shared. Music was one of the joys in his life, he liked all types – he stated "whatever mood you want to express or be in music can bring you there". He loved to dance and enjoyed cooking He loved entertaining and frequently had friends over to have drinks and relax. He was well known for his clam chowder, everyone seemed to want his recipe for "Rick's Chowda". He worked hard and long hours. He found time to enjoy everything he worked for. This is one item I would like to share – Rick wrote a "little about me" for himself… "Life is an adventure, enjoy the moments you can on whatever pleases you in life. Never sweat the small things; life is too precious to waste any part of the day! Always be positive and outgoing with whatever makes you happy! He certainly was outgoing – just ask his friends!! One of the insurance company employees stated he was "The Mint and Margarita Man" So friendly and sharing a few mints with her. He loved to get people to laugh and enjoy his company. Rick will be missed!!! To my big brother – my protector when I was young. Private functions will be held for the Celebration of Rick's life. I just heard about Ric´s passing. He did extensive work for us over the years. We became very good friends and connected frequently.
We would always call or text on every holiday. I tried contacting him last Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, and Easter without a response. He invited me to Jacksonville as an open invitation.
He would bring pies to our office at holidays and passed out his famous mints.
We shared our life´s stories in detail, I´d say a mutual respect and caring of intimate details.
I am devastated.
My heart goes out to all. His legacy speaks for itself.

Alice, wonderful tribute to Rick. Deepest sympathies to you, Bob, and your extended families. Rick certainly did seek to experience life to its fullest and true his love of music was part of it. He was always up for the adventure whether riding bikes or on a sled in the Chester, Hawley and Savoy. Gone to soon. Here he is Rte 3 in Ontario, CA 1983. Warmest Regards, Dave

Rick and I were friends and neighbors in St.Augustine. He liked to cook and entertain & we had many fun parties at his place. Rick helped me around the house and I took care of his place when he was up north.
Rick was a good friend I'll miss him.
Rest in peace

So sorry to hear of Rick's passing. Tom and I were long time friends of both Rick and Winnie, enjoying many hours with them both at the house in Holyoke, snowmobiling and enjoy bonfires at the camp with their many friends. It's comforting to know that you are now with Winnie and Maxi dog. Rest in peace
