Mary Witte Obituary
She was born February 23, 1930, in Henry County, Ohio, to the late Carl and Valeta (Rohrs) Freytag.
Mary was a 1948 graduate of Ridgeville High School where she was a member of the high school band and over the years, she still enjoyed playing her cornet. On May 1, 1949, she married Louis Witte at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Napoleon Township.
Mary Alice was a homemaker and farmer's wife. She helped on the family farm and spent countless hours tending to the garden and canning vegetables and fruit. She was a self-taught seamstress and won several blue ribbon awards for entries in the county fair. She also assisted her church, Hope Lutheran Church, Hamler, to create blankets and her sense of giving continued to the end, as she helped tie plastic bags for The Mat Weaver's Ministry. She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school and belonged to the Women of the church.
Mary Alice was such a devoted wife and mother and is survived by her husband of 73 years, Louis, children, Helen Witte, Joan (John) Von Deylen, William "Bill" Witte, David Witte, Linda (Gary) Kadesch and Sandra (Edward) Updike, 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and siblings, Theodore "Ted" Freytag, Frederick "Fritz" (Marilyn) Freytag, sister-in-law, Harriet Freytag and special friends, Dorothy Kolberg and Evelyn Prigge. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Witte, brothers, Ralferd and Robert "Bob" (Arlene) Freytag and sister-in-law, Betty Freytag.
A celebration of life in honor of Mary Alice will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 8 at Hope Lutheran Church, Hamler, Ohio. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Viewing and visitation will be held on Tuesday from 3-7 p.m. at Rodenberger-Gray Funeral Home, Napoleon and Wednesday from 10-11 a.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hope Lutheran Church or The Mat Weaver's Ministry.
