Doris was born on June 19, 1927, to Hilda and Richard Picklemann in Saginaw. Following college, where she earned her RN degree; she worked 40 years as a health care professional in the Traverse City area. Following her career, Doris remained active as a volunteer in the hospitals in both Traverse City and Sebastian.
While attending a wedding party, she met Harold McGlothlin, whom she married on Aug. 27, 1949. Together the raised four children and enjoyed her passions of family, church, bridge and travel. She was a member of The Presbyterian Church of Traverse City and Sebastian, Fla., serving on the Presbyterian Session in Sebastian.
Doris will be remembered always for her wonderful, warm, cheerful smile. She possessed tremendous gifts for listening and encouraging others, which will be greatly missed.
Her living family includes her loving husband, Harold or 56 years; her children, Michael and Jean McGlothlin of Sabastopol, Calif., James and Melanie McGlothlin of Traverse City, Mark and Barbara Dieterle of Loveland, Colo., and David and Gail McGlothlin of Laurel, Mont.; her sister, Mary Ann Grunow of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sister-in-law, Lorraine Picklemann of Saginaw; brother-in-law, Theodore DeYoung of Fulton, Calif.; and six grandchildren, Margo, Kelly, Lindsay, Sean, Eric and Keith.
There will be a graveside service on Saturday, May 19, at noon, at the Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens on Veterans Drive in Traverse City. Following the graveside service there will be a memorial service at the Presbyterian Church of Traverse City, at 1:30 p.m.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the American Cancer Society, 525 W. 14th St., Traverse City 49684, or to House of Hope, PO Box 5014, Traverse City, 49696. Envelopes will be available at the church service.
