Terry was born Jan. 15, 1955, in Lansing, the son of the late Charles M. and Merle L. (Vrogindewey) Gilmer. He moved to Gaylord and was raised there until age 12, when his family moved to Traverse City. He was a graduate of the Traverse City High School and went on to receive his Registered Nurse Nursing Degree.
He practiced nursing in the Lansing Area at Saginaw Hospital prior to moving to Humboldt Township over 25 years ago. While in the Upper Peninsula he worked at Marquette General Hospital and Dickinson County Hospital as a RN.
Terry had an Entrepreneurial Spirit, as evidenced by his Grizzly Gilmer's Maple Syrup Business, which he ran for several years. Terry was an avid outdoors man, having built his own log cabin from the lumber on his land. He also enjoyed playing around with his tractor, along with hunting on his land.
Survivors include two brothers, C. Michael (Tawni) Gilmer of Interlochen and Ted (Ruth) Gilmer of Empire; a sister, Patricia (Ronnie) Stewart of Holden, La.; along with several nieces and nephews.
A memorial gathering of family and friends will be held on Monday, Nov. 19, 2007, from 3 until 4 p.m., at the Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming.
Terry's obituary may also be viewed at www.bjorkandzhulkie.com, where friends and relatives may leave a note of remembrance.

I am sadden to hear about Terry's passing. Terry was a unique person. I remember him from school and worked briefly with him at Bendix. The last time I spoke with him was at our 30th Class Reunion. We sat and talked for along time about the past and what had happened over the years. I will miss him at the next one.

my sympathy goes out to the family and friends of terry gilmer. he was a unique individual, and we had some good times together. we worked together for a seismic survey business called bendix, out of traverse city. he actually got me the job and later we shared a home on rennie lake for a short while. we also spent some time together in the Upper Peninsula of
michigan near a crossroad town called Kenton. my uncle Vy was building a huge log cabin out in the middle of nowhere on land that his parents had homesteaded. Vy was near 70 years old, it was really cool. Terry was impressed I know. we both helped cutting wood for the cabin and in a small part of the building process, which Vy always said he had to re-do.
I visited Terry at his land near Champion Michigan, on a few occasions, and once ran into him in Green Bay Wisconsin , where I worked for a toyota dealer, and he just happened to be looking for some spare parts at a junkyard and I was also getting parts there.
we ended up getting some lunch at Kroll's Restaurant and that was
probably the last time I saw him.
I am glad for that chance meeting,
and wish the best for him in the happy hunting ground.
