Janet Capone Obituary
ADRIAN - Sister Janet Capone, formerly known as Sister Mary Leonard Capone, died on Sunday, July 29, 2018, at the Lourdes Senior Community in Waterford, Mich. She was 80 years of age and in the 61st year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.
Sister Janet was born in New York, N.Y., to Leonard and Veronica (Hall) Capone. She graduated from Rosarian Academy, West Palm Beach, Fla., and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in French from Barry College (University) Miami, Fla., and a Master of Arts degree in guidance/counseling from Siena Heights College (University), Adrian, Mich.
Sister Janet spent 19 years ministering in elementary and secondary education in Pensacola, West Palm Beach and Tampa, Fla., and one year teaching at the college level in Tarrytown, N.Y. After serving as an adult protective services counselor for two years, Sister Janet served the Adrian Dominican Congregation as the administrator of the Dominican Life Center for two years and Prioress of the Congregation for six years. She spent six years in California as the vice president of sponsorship at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz. In addition, Sister Janet ministered for 13 years in St. Louis, Mo., as the director of Emmaus Community, an inter-congregational center established to assist in the personal growth and development of women religious.
Sister was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Donald. She is survived by a sister, Carole (Terrance) Frechette, Weston, Mass.
Welcome of Sister Janet will be at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 5, 2018, in the Dominican Life Center Lobby; the Wake will follow from 6:15 to 7 p.m. in the Rose Room of the Dominican Life Center. The Reception of the Body and Vigil Prayer will be at 7 p.m. in St. Catherine Chapel. The Funeral Mass will be offered in St. Catherine Chapel at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 6, 2018. The Rite of Committal will be in the Congregation cemetery.
Memorial gifts may be made to Adrian Dominican Sisters, 1257 E. Siena Heights Drive, Adrian, MI 49221. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian.
