GARY GRANT
CONTINENTAL — Gary C. Grant, 78, died 4:30 a.m., Friday, September 4, 2015 at Glenn Park of Defiance, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born May 25, 1937, in Continental to the late Lester Sr. and Gladys (Varner) Grant. On July 18, 1959, he married JoAnn Leatherman. She died September 18, 2000.
Gary was the founder of Gary C. Grant Insurance Agency, Continental and retired in 2010. He was a life member of North Mt. Zion Church, Continental, Continental Lions Club, Continental Conservation Club, Continental Masonic Lodge #129, Putnam County Republican Party Chairman for 25 years, 1992 Delegate to Republican National Convention, member of the Division of Wildlife Council, Toledo Valley Scottish Rite, past member of the Putnam County Board of Elections, past president of the Continental Development Corporation. Gary was a devoted father and grandfather and an avid outdoorsman.
Survivors include 3 children: Lori (Todd) Allen of Continental, David C. (Julie) Grant of Defiance, and Diana (Gregory) Lowe of Galena; 9 grandchildren: Joshua (Heather) Allen, Andrea (Kurt) Recker, Meghan (Ty) Shingledecker, Alexi Grant, Taylor Grant, Grayson Miller, Georgia Miller, Grant Lowe and Garrett Lowe; 2 great-grandchildren; mother-in-law: Verda Leatherman of Oakwood; and 2 sisters-in-law: Margaret Grant of Continental and Karen Grant of Defiance.
He was preceded in death by 3 brothers: Lester Grant, Jr., Gerald Grant and Kenneth Grant; and a sister-in-law: Helen Grant.
Funeral service will begin 11:00 a.m., September 9, 2015 at North Mt. Zion Church, Continental with Rev. Brent Gibson officiating. Burial will follow in Monroe Cemetery, Continental.
Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Continental and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.
Memorial donations may be given to the Continental Conservation Club or to the charity of the donor's choice.
