Susan E. Hornbeek 1951 - 2017
SPRINGFIELD, IL—Susan E. Hornbeek, 66, of Springfield, died at 5:12 p.m., Sunday, May 21, 2017, at her home.
She was born Feb. 20, 1951, in Jacksonville, to Russell Luther and Doris E. Hayes Hornbeek.
Survivors include two brothers, David L. (Kathryn) Hornbeek of Glendale, Ariz., and Daniel L. (Barbara) Hornbeek of Elyria, Ohio; one aunt, Shirley Hornbeek of Jacksonville; one uncle, Albert Hornbeek of Chatham; two nieces, Amy and Hilary; two nephews, Stephen and Gregory; and cousins: Cheri Lynn Hubert, Jay (Gayla) Hornbeek, Dawnell Hubbert, Janice McKean and Bill McKean.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and one niece, Heidi Hornbeek.
Susan was a U.S. Navy veteran. She was 1989 nurse graduate of Lincoln Land Community College and worked as an LPN at St. John's Hospital and Memorial Medical Center in newborn and pediatrics. Most recently she had driven a bus for First Student for the past 15 years before retirement.
She was a member of West Side Christian Church and a former member of Illinois Nurses Association, Big Brother/Big Sister Association, and AAUW. She volunteered with the Red Cross and Contact Ministries.
Visitation: 9-10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 27, 2017, at Staab Funeral Home– Springfield.
Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 27, 2017, at Staab Funeral Home–Springfield, with Vaughn Beeman officiating.
Burial will be at Murrayville Cemetery in Murrayville Ill., where military honors will be conducted.
Memorial contributions may be made to: West Side Christian Church.

Susan's family lived across the street from us when she was a child. She would come over and talk to me and she was always so peppy and cute. I am deeply sorry for your loss.
