Isabel M. Hornbeek

Mrs. Isabel Marie Hornbeek "Izzy," age 98, passed from this life and entered into the presence of the Lord on March 16, 2025. A godly woman, Isabel was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Isabel loved her Savior, the Lord Jesus, with all her heart and loved reading God's word. She was gentle, humble, kindhearted and embodied a servant's heart, always putting other people's needs before her own. She was beloved by all she encountered.
Isabel was born and grew up in Victoria de Las Tunas, Oriente, Republic of Cuba until she emigrated to Orlando, Florida in 1941. She graduated from Orlando High School in 1950, and attended Nyack College in New York. She married her beloved husband, Richard, in 1951. Isabel was naturalized as a United States citizen in 1955, and had a strong patriotic spirit and abiding love for her adopted country. She retired from the SunTrust Bank. She and her husband were long-standing members of the First Christian & Missionary Alliance Church in Orlando, Florida, where Isabel taught Sunday School, children's Vacation Bible School, and participated in other church activities.
Isabel was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Richard Lamar Hornbeek, her daughter, Richele Marie Hornbeek, and her son, Randal Richard Hornbeek; her parents, Maria Luisa Botello Nunez and Gregorio Urquiza; and all four of her siblings.
She is survived by her daughter, Beverly H. Smith and son-in-law Jerry Smith; grandson, Jason Smith and his wife Melissa; four great-grandchildren, Jacob (Burklee), Nathan (Lexi), James and Addy Smith, and a great-great-grandchild Brynlee.
A private committal service for the family will take place on March 18, 2025, with the Reverend Neal Avirett officiating, followed by interment at Tallahassee National Cemetery.
The family would like to express heartfelt appreciation to Chaplain Neil Averitt, and the nurses and assistants of Big Bend Hospice for their professional and thoughtful care of Isabel. Also, the family would like to express their appreciation to the nurses and assistants of Seven Hills Health & Rehabilitation for their attentive and loving care of Isabel.
