Ruth Ann Wright

1944 - 2014

Ruth Ann Wright was born in Providence, RI, November 1, 1944 to Woodrow and Eileen Martin. Ruth grew up in New York and Texas. After attending American University in Washington D.C., she moved to California in 1965 to attend University of Pacific, graduating with a BA in English. It was here she met Garland Wright, who smitten with her charms married her December 9, 1967 in the Morris Chapel. They moved to Lodi where she has since resided. She held a graduate (MA) degree from University of San Francisco in Counseling Psychology and she worked diligently as a counselor in private practice and St. Joseph's Hospital. Ruth was active in community activities including: founding member of Lodi Ecology Action and active in protesting and successfully closing Rancho Seco. Those early efforts helped transform Lodi into being one of the first communities to recycle their household waste. She was a longtime member and office holder in America Association of University Women (AAUW). Ruth was a loving wife, wonderful mother and great friend.
She is survived by her husband Garland Wright, (46 years of marriage); her son and daughter in law Eric and Holly Wright; love of her life, grand-daughter, Abigail; half-sister Rusty Collie; Aunt Mildred Hanie; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of San Joaquin; Animal Friends Connection, PALS, the Lodi Community Art Center or a charity of the donor's choice.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday June 25, 2014, 11:00 a.m. at Lodi Funeral Home., Fairmont Ave., Lodi, CA. There is no visitation. Lodi Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
