Sally Mehlhaff (née HOFF) Obituary

Sally Ann Mehlhaff, 91, of Lodi, CA, passed away on Mother's Day, May 11, 2025, at Brookdale Assisted Living. Born on May 3, 1934, in Tripp, South Dakota, she was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend, and will be deeply missed.
Sally is survived by her daughter, Lori Ann Felten (née Mehlhaff) and son-in-law Steven Felten; son Greg Kenneth Mehlhaff and son-in-law Fernando Souper; granddaughters Farrah Felten-Jolley (née Felten) and husband Stefan Jolley, and Jessica Stoddard and husband Aaron Logsdon; great-granddaughters Anya Jolley, Lavender Logsdon, and Daisy Logsdon; and her sister, Lila Mettler (née Hoff). She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Walter Mehlhaff; her parents, Paul and Bertha Hoff; and her sister, Delvis Drew (née Hoff).
Sally graduated from Lodi High School and worked as a homemaker, fulfilling many roles such as cook, maid, taxi service, and errand runner. Anyone who lived a farm life knows the immense work involved for a farm homemaker. She was especially devoted to her husband Kenneth, caring and advocating for him during his post-stroke recovery for six years until his death.
After his passing, she enjoyed making her weekly rounds to thrift stores in downtown Lodi, searching for treasures, especially Steiff teddy bears. She loved her garden overlooking the Mokelumne River and cherished her Mondays and Fridays at Klinker Brick Winery, where she enjoyed the company of family and friends.
In honor of her love for her Klinker Brick afternoons, a celebration of life will be held on June 28, 2025, from 1-4 PM at Klinker Brick Winery, 15887 Alpine Road, Lodi. Friends and family are welcome to attend. Light food, dessert, and fantastic wine will be served. Please come in your brightest colors to celebrate her beautiful life.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lodi House 221 West Lodi Ave, which operates a beautiful thrift store that Sally frequented, or to another charity of your choice.
Rest in peace, Sally Ann Mehlhaff. Your legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew you.

As Greg and Lori already know, their Mom had a huge impact on my life many years ago when Dan and I were new parents. It wasn't lost on me that Sally passed on Mother's Day because she was the kindest, sweetest, most loving and dedicated Mother and it was a fitting tribute. Both Kenneth and Sally were influential simply by being themselves. Kenneth and Dan were raised across the road from each other on Locust Tree. Raising grapes came first, but Kenneth would often take Dan water skiing and chose to spend a lot of fun time and hard work with him. He was Dan's first cousin and, while they were 16 years apart in age, he always treated Dan as a younger brother. Sally herself was a woman who was a constant joy to be around. Our first daughter hung out a lot with her when I was busy (forever grateful for you Sally!). When our son was born early, Sally stepped up and bonded even more with our daughter during a difficult time. She allowed us ease of mind knowing our 4 year old was being well cared for while we were up in Sacramento by his side. Sally and Kenneth's marriage was also a fantastic role model for Dan and me. Needless to say, I treasure those years and will keep the many kind memories in my heart forever. She, Kenneth, and Dan are in heaven together and that brings me comfort. Hopefully, for all of Sally's beloved family, it brings them comfort, too.

Sally was my neighbor for over 50 years. She was a quiet pleasant lady. May you cherish the many memories you shared with your mom.
