It has been my honor and privilege to have known Major General Charles Heiden since the mid-1980's. Following his military retirement and soon after his move to Louisville he joined the Cedar Lake Board of Directors where I worked as chief executive and whereon he and I began a collaboration and relationship that would last for well over 25 years. And it is with sincere sadness and respect that I now note his passing.
During the late 1980's and throughout the 1990's "The General," as he was respectfully and fondly known around Cedar Lake, continued his life of service to others, and he also became one of my most significant professional mentors when he became Chairman of the Cedar Lake boards. He was an extraordinary accomplished man: He was a brilliant, versatile, tough, and, most importantly, a visionary leader who made me a better person and leader. General Heiden’s time helping Cedar Lake resulted in critical and lasting innovations and unprecedented growth and success, and those persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities served by Cedar Lake continue to reap the benefits from the leadership, work and innovations! RIP General Heiden...and thank you for your dedicated service!
