Rev. Francis J. Campbell, O.M.IÉprofessor, six decades in priesthood; 89 TEWKSBURY - The Rev. Francis J. Campbell, O.M.I., whose decades of service as a priest with the Oblates of Mary Immaculate included a year at Lowell's Sacred Heart Church, died Monday afternoon, Feb. 2, at the Oblate Residence in Tewksbury. He was 89. He was born in Palgrave, Ontario, son of the late John and Margaret (Stevens) Campbell. He was educated in Palgrave and Tottenham, Ontario. He attended St. Michael's College in Toronto and St. Mary's in Brookville, Ontario, and received his license in sacred theology from Ottawa University. In 1936, Father Campbell took his first vows as an Oblate, and was ordained a priest on June 21, 1942 at St. Joseph Church in Ottawa. He was a teacher at Holy Rosary School in Canada and a professor of theology at Oblate College in Washington, D.C. Father Campbell's missionary work over the years included a one-year assignment in Lowell, when he was a priest at the Sacred Heart parish in 1968. His ministry also took him to parishes in North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Illinois, and he stayed in contact with many former parishioners until his recent illness. His survivors include nieces and nephews in Ontario.
