ORANGEBURG, South Carolina -- Allen William Burdick, Jr.,71 of Orangeburg passed away peacefull with his family by his side, Thursday June 3, 2010, at his residence after a sudden illness.

Mr. Burdick was born in Hartford, CT a son of the late Allen William Burdick and Esther Mary Landry. He attended elementary, grammar and high school at Lowell. During his school years he was very active in baseball, basketball, football and boxing.

Alan had many passions, but his heart outside his wife and family was with the animals.

Mr. Burdick served four years with the US Air Force as an Air Policeman. He served six inactive years the Air Force, several years with the Lowell Auxiliary Police, three years on the Sherriff's Department for Broward and Bradford Counties, FL. Mr. Burdick attended Jacksonville Junior College and Santa Fe College, Gainesville FL and the Florida Police Academy. He was a licensed and long time member of the USTA where he was owner, driver, trainer and raced throughout the US and Canada. His last start as a driver was in 1996 at the Rochester New Hampshire Fair. Mr. Burdick grew up with and married Janet Lach Burdick, together they raised seven children, nephews, grandchildren. They work with MA Mental Health and Cared for Handicapped Persons. Mr. Burdick was a good standing member of over 42 years of many State Racing Commission Department. He traveled many foreign countries during Military and Civilian years. Mr. Burdick owned and operated the Bond Security Guard and Investigation Service at Chelmsford, MA and was an auctioneer. He was predeceased by a daughter Kathy Ricks.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Janet Lach Burdick, of the home, daughters Pamela Burdick of Athol MA, Doreen Burdick of Orangeburg, Kelly B. Pye (Clyde) of Good Hope GA, Janet Burdick of Sicklerville NJ, and Brenda B. Cunningham and her husband Robert of Dracut MA, a son Michael Burdick and his wife Sarah of South Paris ME, 21 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. A sister, Shirley Neese of Largo FL.

BURDICK -- Family will receive friends: Monday evening from 6 - 8 P.M. at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home. At other times friends may call at the residence. Funeral Service will be held at 4:00 PM Tuesday June 8, at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home Chapel in Orangeburg SC. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made: Janet (Lach) Burdick, to help care for homeless animals association in care of the funeral home.
