Beloved Son, Brother and Uncle
Jim Myron Sarantos, 63, of West Palm Beach, died unexpectedly, August 11, 2017 at his summer home on Tinker's Island, in Marblehead. Jim was the beloved son of Presbytera Nicki Sarantos of Florida and the late Very Reverend John Sarantos.
He was born on January 13, 1954 in Lansing, Michigan. He grew up in the Highlands neighborhood of Lowell, and attended the Transfiguration of Our Savior Greek Orthodox Church, where his father was the priest for 37 years. Jim continued to actively participate at St. Catherine's Greek Orthodox Church in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Jim graduated from Fitchburg State Teacher's College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Industrial Arts, with woodworking as his specialty.
He taught woodworking at the Moody School in Lowell for a number of years, before pursuing various entrepreneurial interests, including woodworking, car restoration and real estate. Jim was the consummate worker and always had many projects running simultaneously. He spent winters in Florida and summers on Tinker's Island.
From a young age, he was an energetic, creative and entertaining person. A visit to Jim's house was always interjected with good food, great conversation, and continuous laughter.
In addition to his mother Niki, he is survived by a brother, Peter Sarantos and his wife Barbara, and their children, John and Kaitlyn, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
SARANTOS -- In Marblehead, James Myron Sarantos, aged 63 years. Family and friends will gather at the Transfiguration of Our Savior Greek Orthodox Church, Father Sarantos Way, Lowell on Wednesday morning from 9:00 to 11:00 AM. Jim's funeral service to follow at 11:00 AM. Interment in Westlawn Cemetery, Lowell. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his name to the Father John Mosaic Maintenance Fund, 25 Father John Sarantos Way, Lowell, MA., 01854. Arrangements under the care of MORSE-BAYLISS FUNERAL HOME, 122 Princeton Blvd., the Highlands neighborhood of Lowell. Funeral director, Frederick W. Healy. Sadly, I just learned of Jimmy's death. I had been thinking of him quite a bit this past year. I decided I needed to look him up and connect again. It has been more than 40 years since I had talked to him. So, in my search, I came across Jimmy's obituary. I always loved you and your family, especially your Mom, Nikki. Jimmy was my first young teenage crush. Those special sentiments always linger, no matter what else life dishes out to us. Young, innocent times.

Memory Eternal! I just learned of the repose in the Lord of James, as I knew him since he was very young. I attended his beloved Father John services, and often visited his home in Lowell. May our Lord God remember him in His Kingdom, and grant those whom he loved comfort, including his beloved mother, and brother. My condolences to the Sarantos family. I'm saddened to hear of Jimmy's passing. Being a kid growing up in the same neighborhood, Father John's house always had a great vibe. Jim was always working out of the garage, usually on a vintage Corvette. He was always a guy that had a warm smile and a good word, for a curious kid from the next street over. We all looked up to him, he was the essence of COOL.

We will always remember Jimmy, his warm greetings, rushing with us over the rocks to save a couple sailors who had crashed their sailboat onto the southern rocks of Tinkers... but the enduring memory for Betsy and all of us Davies is the warm hospitality and joy of life of the entire Sarantos family over the decades at Tinkers with Jimmy right out in front, from the first time we met them and Jimmy racing around roasting a full lamb over a fire all day hosting a huge feast for their new island family to his cheerful voice hugs and strong handshake at this years picnic. They're wrong. Life isn't short...as long as you live it exactly the way you want. My Jimmy did just that. A million miles an hour with the windows down and the radio all the way up. Wild and carefree with a gentle soul. The son of a Priest, yet broke all the rules. My life will never be the same without his constant and completely insane words of wisdom, his ability to turn every day into a celebration, his songs about life as we sat around the fire, and his genuine promise to always be there for those he loved. Most of all I'll miss his smile and his voice-that infectious smile that no one could resist and a voice that always roared with laughter. Bad days are only a matter of your mind...so stop feeling sorry for yourself and do something about it.
We love you Jimmy. Through the whirlwind of ups and downs-you never changed. You were the only constant in a world of chaos.
Rest in sweet paradise Jimmy. Don't forget to look for me; I'll be watching for your flag to go up so I can meet you at the Island on the other side.

Nicki, and family, Jimmy has been part of island life for so long we will miss him. So many memories of him on the island with his huge smile and hugs. He was just in swimming with us a couple of days before he passed.I think he would have been happy to know that he passed away on the island that he loved so much. God Bless.
