Bonnie Samuelson Obituary

Bonnie Jean Samuelson

Chelsea - Bonnie Jean Samuelson (Ruble), 88, died of Alzheimer's disease on November 25, 2017 in Chelsea, Michigan, with her husband Roy Samuelson and family near her side. Born in Salem, Ohio in 1929 to Earl and Pearl Ruble, Bonnie grew up in rural eastern Ohio. She completed registered nursing certification in Akron, Ohio in 1950. There she met Roy Samuelson, who she married on May 10, 1952. Bonnie and Roy lived in Greensboro, North Carolina; St. Louis, Missouri; and then East Lansing, Michigan, where they spent most of their lives and raised four children. Bonnie worked as a nurse at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing and then at the Ingham County Jail.

Bonnie was kind, compassionate, and adventurous. She loved to go camping with friends. She helped to start a new church, worked as a docent in the Michigan State University art museum, and enjoyed reading, playing bridge, golfing, and traveling. She placed a high priority on family relationships, including the extended family of her children's spouses. Bonnie was welcoming to everyone, opening her home for Sunday evening dinners and Christmas holidays. She maintained a positive attitude about almost everything and had a witty sense of humor. Bonnie lived a wonderful, full life and will be missed by her family and friends.

Bonnie is survived by her husband, Roy, brother, Gail, four children, Victor, Linda, Eric, and Kay, six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

A memorial celebration of Bonnie's life is scheduled for December 9th, 2017 at 10am in the Towsley Chapel at the Chelsea Retirement Community, 805 W. Middle St., Chelsea, Michigan. Donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org) or Chelsea Retirement Community (www.umrc.com).

Bonnie and Roy were wonderful neighbors for many years and maintained a dear and special friendship for several years after we moved to Bath. Whether it was walking Muffin and Jennie around East Lansing, playing a competitive game of bridge, or have a Swedish dinner with Sammie's famous Stollen, we always felt like we were part of a really happy family. Our heartfelt sympathies go to Roy, Vic, Eric, Linda, Kay, their spouses and families and the countless friends who share in the loss of this wonderful woman who gave us many years of fun and friendship.
