I have known Jere from the beginning of our academic careers at the national R&D Center for Teacher Education at UT. Throughout his career he has made enduring contributions through his scholarship. My best memory of Jere is how he would light up whenever I asked him about his grand children.

He had such a profound impact on my scholarship and on my understanding of the way university faculty should interact with teachers/school in trying to bridge theory and practice. I immersed myself in his work and I looked forward to seeing him at AERA every year. Last year, my students and I had the privilege of having Jere serve as a discussant for our session at AERA. After, we everyone in the session went out for lunch together. For me, it was like having lunch with a rock star."

I'm so sorry to hear of Jere's passing. I worked with him on two editions of one of his books and know first hand what a brilliant educator he was and what great contributions he made to the education of literally thousands of teachers and their respective students. His impact and contribution will live on for many, many years. Please accept my deepest sympathy.
