Very sad to hear this news. George was a good friend to my parents, teaching in ATL with my father, Henry Silverman, and a colorful presence during my childhood. I can see him sitting in our living room and hear his distinct and powerful voice as I write this. He had great wit, style, and love for his friends. We inherited several of his Ford vehicles, including, I think, a red Pinto station wagon, and we all had lovely silk kimonos he brought back from his time in Japan. What a amazing character. He will be missed.
