Richard Kingsley Stuart

Okemos - Richard Kingsley Stuart passed away peacefully at home April 24, 2021. He was born May 10, 1916 in Monroe Bridge, MA. He graduated from Washington and Lee University and began his career as a teacher. He enlisted in the Army during World War II and was an officer in the Office of Strategic Services serving in the Pacific Theater. Following the war, he continued his career in intelligence as an expert on Southeast Asia in the Department of State and later the Foreign Service. He retired to Lexington, Virginia living near the Washington and Lee campus before moving to Okemos, Michigan to be near family.

As an avid gardener, he grew all things green in a deer-proofed garden and by every window. He enjoyed woodworking, photography, music and books of all genres.

His loving wife and constant companion of 63 years, Nancy Owen Stuart, preceded him in death. He is survived by his children, Richard, Jr (Melissa) of Spring Branch, TX, Carolyn Stuart of London, UK, and Sarah Maldonado of Okemos, MI; four grandchildren, Richard, III (Lindsey) of Spring, TX, Jennifer Brown of Minneapolis, MN, Daniel Brodsky of Bristol, UK and Michael Brodsky of London, UK; and one great-grandchild, 1-year old Lily Stuart, Spring, TX.

As per Richard's wishes, there will be no services.
