Eunice Tiroff Obituary

Eunice Christine Tiroff LUBBOCK- Christine Tiroff went to be with her lord and savior October 27, 2012 following a brief illness. Chris was born July 28, 1934 in Saint Jo, Texas to the late John M. and Vera Carlton Faulkinberry. She attended and graduated high school in Vernon, Texas and moved to Lubbock in 1951. Chris was a loving mother and grandmother who delighted in visiting with her family. She was a long time employee of Furr's cafeteria, retiring after nearly 30 years service. She took great pride in her appearance and one of the highlights of her life was participating in a feature article in Texas Monthly on Big Hair, bringing her notoriety on the South Plains and much of Texas. Chris very much enjoyed attending Sunday school and worship services at Southcrest Baptist Church where she was a member. Survivors include a son, Dale M. Tiroff; daughter-in-law, Tammy M. Tiroff; grandson, Lukas M. Tiroff all of Evans, Ga.; and a brother, Conley Faulkinberry of Lubbock. Family will receive friends at Sanders Funeral Home Monday, October 29, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. Graveside services and interment will be at the City of Lubbock Cemetery, Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at 11 a.m. The Reverend Jerry Wilson of Southcrest Baptist Church will be officiating. We went often to Furrs on 50th St. I remember that she would push the cart with tea, water, and ice and would make sure that the customers would have enough to drink with their meal. We would engage her in conversation and she told us that she was planning to go to modeling school. She always had that dream. She was a woman who did not have a high profile job, as society would define it, and yet she touched so many lives.

Chris was always so kind to our family. In the 90's we took our MHS son and his football friends to Furr's weekly, and her kindness and hospitality were so evident. Also, my father, B. J. Randles would give her a "hard time", kidding her about any number of things, which she took in stride with a wink and a smile! Her life made a difference! Our prayers are with you.

My Aunt worked at Furrs for many years with her and we came in quite often to eat. You could always count on a smile and hello as she came by your table and was quick to point out where family members were sitting. My prayers are with the family, she was a lovely lady.

We moved to Lubbock in 1984 and discovered the "old people" Furr's on 50th St. as our two young boys called it. Chris was a fixture there at the time and we loved visiting with her. She was definitely larger than life. Missed her when she retired.
