Paul Hanna was absolutely my life's mentor. He, above anyone else, taught me how to think. There's hardly a day that goes by that I don't remember him and his caring but stern way of making you defend your work and thought process in front of the class. He did not care much for answers that were not well thought out. He expected you to be prepared.......he expected you to THINK!
He was a giant of a mentor to so many people and the size of the footprint he left behind will be a hard one to fill. Rest in Peace Mr. Hanna.

I have fond memories of Prof. Hanna, perched on a stool in design class, calmly assessing our assignments, clouds of aromatic smoke emanating from his pipe. His criticisms were terse and to the point, and we all revered the man. He introduced us to Japanese woodblock printing; I introduced him to the Nikon F camera in "pretty forever chrome". His best advice to me was use the time one has in the art lab wisely-later on you´ll regret not having put in more effort. Thank you sir. Michael Craft-1964/1967.

Uncle Paul, you were a talented artist, but Laura was your most beautiful work.

I was in the first class Paul Hanna taught at Texas Tech in 1960. He burned one of the first ''outside assignments'' because it was so bad and said that he should have done that to all of them! He was right. You know, it hurts when you just have to laugh out loud but don't dare. He pushed us to do better and do more than we thought we could. I came to appreciate everything he tried to do for his students. He even had a sneaky dry sense of humor. A great TEACHER.

Paul Hanna was my first teacher at the Texas Tech Center in Junction. He changed the direction of my life -- inspired me to continue my art. He once wrote the principal of the school where I taught to tell him that I what a good student I was. Who does that! I can still hear him say to draw every day and when drawing wasn't possible to do it in your mind. His teaching lives on through his students!

I grew up down the street from the Hannas and went to school with their daughter Laura. My deepest condolences to the entire family.

Paul Hanna was an inspiration to many, but especially to me as a student at TTU Center at Junction. I was fortunate to be in 3 of his classes and able to observe an excellent teacher, who inspired us all to strive for the best in ourselves. He was a gracious person, who showed gratitude to those who befriended he and his family. My condolences to Elaine and Laura.
