Mr. Harris was my scoutmaster in Troop 403. In fact, he drove by my house to pick me up for each and every scout meeting. He made scouting a rich environment for all of us to learn through the many camping trips, service tasks such as ushering at Tech games, and simple brotherhood. I carry his influence even now at age 69 years. He empowered every boy in the troop. We were all very fortunate to have been touched by his fellowship.

Harold Harris was my scoutmaster, and while working with me on the personal fitness merit badge, encouraged me to go out for high school track. This inspired me to pursue and excel in a sport that I hadn't otherwise considered. In 1957 Harold planned and executed a backpack trip for four of us Life scouts 30 miles across the Pecos Wilderness Area of New Mexico's Sangre de Cristo Mountains. This adventurous trip inspired me to a career with the U.S. Forest Service, and a life of hiking, backpacking, mountain climbing, and skiing the wilderness areas of North America. I forever owe Harold Harris a huge debt of gratitude for his inspiration on my life.

Harold was my scout master. I really admired him and he taught me a lot about scouting and life. He took us on a Wilderness hike in the Pecos Wilderness area which I will never forget. Thanks Harold so much for your service in scouting.

It's difficult to measure Harold's influence on my life. I was blessed to have Harold as my scoutmaster for about seven years. Harold was such a great example to me as a gentle giant: as a Christian man who was unselfish with his time (thank you Virginia for sharing him with us) and who truly cared about his scouts, as a true intellectual who could talk with such fluency about astronomy, meteorology, and just about any subject that would come up, and as a real friend. One of my fondest memories of Harold was that my bachelor party before my marriage to Beverly was a get together of his scouts at the Harris home. Harold truly left his mark on me and many many others!

I remember Harold as a good and faithful man. It was a joy to work with him on projects at First Baptist while I was pastor. Blessings on his family.
